I've been missing your videos and was so happy to see this. Welcome back. The engineering and work required for 'just' a station is enormous and complex. You've done a great job giving us an insight into what goes into it. Especially enjoyed the extra detail on the cross-over.
ОтветитьI think the construction lift is more for personnel than equipment. A 2,000kg limit would only get a few workers in, they all look like big boys. At most station sites you see the big arse MARR's tower cranes. I'm sure that's where all the heavy lifting is done. Burwood North being 900 meters from Burwood station would be a good option if we have another rail meltdown. The bonus with walking from one to the other is you have the Avondale Hotel at one end & the Bath Arms hotel at the other. Just saying.
ОтветитьAt Central the metro station was excavated after the tunneling was completed, they mined out the tunnel rings to construct the station.
This will have to be done at Rosehill and Silverwater if stations are built there, both of these stations should be commenced by the end of this year.
The haggling over the racecourse can continue whist construction is in progress.
Legislation shoud be introduced to compulsorily aquire the Racecourse as was done with the speedway and other sites along the Metros.
It's very important that the billions of public money spent on this metro delivers a viable project not just a Parramatta to Sydney shuttle at stupendous cost.
Postponing construction to save money always ends up increasing costs.
Attempting to spread costs over time is ineffective as costs increase over time.
excellent .
ОтветитьThe construction lift is to move workers in and out of the box. The majority of materials are lifted in by crane
ОтветитьAhh. I remember that open day. I was there that day
ОтветитьWill Sydney Metro West Reduce Traffic on Parramatta Road and Rozelle Interchange?
ОтветитьHey Paul, I haven’t seen your updated videos for months as I was traveling in Japan with my dad and I have also been busy with both my family and my work job.
ОтветитьHi Paul, great to see you back. You have been greatly missed. Interesting seeing Burwood North Metro station. Love all the running down the stairs there. Interesting seeing those pipes. They remind me a bit of the pipes in the city circle tunnels near Wynyard and St James. No idea of what they are used for. That construction lift isn't exactly luxurious, but it certainly does the job there. i remember riding a goods lift at my first workplace, which is somewhat similar to the construction lift there. Incidentally, were you affected by the recent Sydney train incident with the overhead wire breaking? Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.
Ответитьanother great video keep up the great job paul
ОтветитьCentral
ОтветитьGood to see you back!
ОтветитьOnya Paul !! We all missed ya !! 😀
ОтветитьAn excellent video. As an older Civil Engineer, I am amazed how far we have come in forty years after decades of stagnation in new railway construction.
ОтветитьFascinating and informative video Paul. Well done mate !
ОтветитьYayyyy! A Transport Vlog video
Ответить2032? Why is this seven years away?
Ответитьnice - open days like that should have step free - i think they ought put ramp at bottom of tempoery lift to allow people with wheelchairs and people with crutches to enter and exit
Ответитьgreat video!!
ОтветитьThe pipes could be used for compressed air and water. The “Alimack” hoist system was, I think, first used in Australia in the sixties in the excavation of vertical underground openings. GREAT video Paul. I like your work!.

ОтветитьNice one !! Thanks Paul !
ОтветитьStill not sure how people find out about these open days.
I've signed up to every single transport/metro mailing list to be notified of these events but I've never had a single email.
I even ran into Paul at one of the open days I did manage to attend and he showed me which mailing lists to sign up too.
But still nothing 😢
Thanks Paul, bloody amazing!
ОтветитьHad a laugh (and no that’s not an insult) at your guide with his name and then this broad ocker Aussie accent came out. More Aussie sounding than me and I’ve been here 50 years.
ОтветитьReally good to see you back, Paul! I hope everything is OK. Great video as always.
ОтветитьThank you so much interesting, so in the long run you have two choices to go shopping at Westfield would be in the middle of two stations the new one but with station and the Burwood North station👍
ОтветитьGreat job, yet again Paul. Nice editing too.
ОтветитьWelcome back Paul!
Great and informative content as usual :)
Brilliant video Paul!
Really nice to discover the station's works.
I missed the ones in Paris during the open days (8 GPE stations were open that day) and only saw the surface part of one, without going downstairs due to reduced mobility.
So I particularly appreciate this visit.
Sydney's sandstone bedrock really is a godsend. Here, they'd be buttresses everywhere in a rectangular station box of that depth to prevent the walls from crumbling on themselves due to terrain and water pressure.
This makes for large, open pits and great views.
Great and informative video, as always.
Greetings from Paris.
Welcome back Paul.
ОтветитьIt is interesting that I think Concord Oval is about to become one of the best-positioned stadiums in the country Paul, not long after the Oval had a rebuild into a much smaller lower-capacity ground suited really only to training (used by Wests Tigers) or lower leagues matches. Will be interesting to see if professional sport ever contemplates a return there, or if the reverse is true and there is more of a push for it to become more open to public use like Redfern Oval has.
ОтветитьThanks for the video, Paul. Great work as always and great to have you back!
ОтветитьWelcome back Paul! It feels odd not being B roll or camera assistant!
ОтветитьIt's been a while since I've watched your videos Paul, fantastic to see that the quality is still top notch. Keen for Metro West to open and check out the stations when they are built, you're lucky to have checked it out during construction!
Ответитьthe volume on the transitions is too high!
ОтветитьGreat video, Paul!
ОтветитьNot exactly the best location having it next to Parramatta Road.
ОтветитьGreat video Paul! Exciting to see more of SMW.
That station box looks like an amazing place to host a strings concerto.
Welcome back, Paul. At Central the tunnel was bored non-stop from Gadigal to Waterloo and the station box was excavated later, breaking into the concrete segments from above. The breakthrough is shown in the Sydney's Super Tunnel documentary mini-series, in series 2. I think the pipes carry water for fire suppression
ОтветитьWelcome back Paul! Been wondering where you've been. Love your detailed explanations about what you're filming.
ОтветитьGreat video! I reckon a great idea would be re-introducing the trams along Burwood rd which is overly congested atm.
Remove the street parking, build one or two parking areas nearby either underground or whatever & have a fast connection between Burwood North/Concord station to Burwood. In fact, may be a good idea to take the tram all the way to Cabarita as it used to and possibly another branch to Mortlake, Concord Hospital and Rhodes.
Or build a cycle way from Burwood to Burwood North all the way to Cabarita/etc. The metro I can see can open up better connectivity and options nearby.
Great video Paul!
ОтветитьI'm so happy you're back online! We missed you. No-one else I subscribe to does videos like this as well researched as yours on Sydney transit and specifically the metro. I like the fact that you specifically focus on rail-based transport in the Sydney space rather than others that have rail mixed in with public transport and urbanism. Please do stay a while 🙂
ОтветитьGreat Video!!! <3
ОтветитьThanks Paul, enjoyed especially the stair-descending music gave me some Yasutaka Nakata ~LIAR GAME~ vibes
ОтветитьThe Train chaos this week this is why they need the metro west if something like this happen at Homebush the metro West can still operate then people Sydney to parramatta will not have a problem. Built the Metro West Quickly as it will mite pay for at self as it save cost to economy with Chaos
ОтветитьI hope they do the right thing and rename this station as Concord closer to opening time because the station box is actually within the boundary of the suburb on Concord. For example, just nearby is a major sporting ground named.... yep, you guessed it.... Concord Oval. "Burwood North" does not exist as a suburb.
ОтветитьWhere have you been??? everything ok
Ответить
