Hey 👋🏻,valid point🎉, as a beginner which guitar should I opt to start learning jazz? Please reply asap(steel string, nylon or electric)
ОтветитьWhat I did was learn really basic jazz progressions, like 2-5-1; 3-6-2-5; 4-b7-1; 1-4-1-5-4-1. I’d learn those in different keys, like Ebm, Bbm, G Maj, C Maj, etc… then after awhile of having these under my belt I would play around with harmony. Instead of Dm7-G7-Cmaj7, I’d do like Dm9-G7alt-Cmaj7; then I’d get further into it by applying different rhythms. Like I’d play the normal 2-5-1 regular, little basic rhythm; then go right into the fancy chords with a faster more pronounced rhythm. This really sharpened by chord change skills, really sharpened my knowledge for chord shapes and what those shapes sound like, etc…
Ответитьthis is me. i started playing what i wanted on guitar which is fine but now 6 years in and im at a road block for the last 2-3 years i was just in a road block. i wanted to perform live but was too lazy now im trying to get back into learning and its tough because i do know what they’re talking about 50-70 percent of the time but theres the little things i missed and its the practice. i want to just practice jazz standards or songs and just get it write before i start diving in. im only 24 and if i want to be a jazz guitarist i have so much time to develop a vocabulary and learn but the impatient and impulsive side of me is struggling and im slowly learning to well learn music. and actually practice my rhythm and timing and finding out thag i am capable even tho its hard rn
ОтветитьU 100% right. I am one of 'em....
Ответить🎯💯
ОтветитьCouldn't we say melody is like 90% rhythm?
Ответить🫶🏼🎸💫
ОтветитьMusic is motion or rhythm❤❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьAs a long time drummer turned beginning guitarist i seem to have the opposite problem. I'm used to playing constantly, all if the time. So on guitar i have to be mindful of just laying out. Kind of refreshing, too. 😁
Ответить"the biggest mistake I see for beginning players is getting obsessed with all the fancy chords I taught you to play"
(just some tongue in cheek humor)
So right. I've watched really advanced players playing impossible looking runs, but losing phrasing..
ОтветитьII V I consumes me. ❤
ОтветитьExcellent info. Thank you! 👍🏻
ОтветитьI play the correct rhythm and all the wrong notes
Ответитьbest thing is listening tons of jazz ciao
ОтветитьThanks .. nice point. “Make music” … live it.
ОтветитьYes,it's all about the rythm, it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing 🎉
ОтветитьThose are pretty much all your lessons
ОтветитьYep been there done that
ОтветитьI've never really been interested in playing jazz guitar until I found your channel.
ОтветитьYes. It's exactly a factor.
ОтветитьRythm seems to me to be neglected. We first think of scales and chords. While rhythm also brings to tension resolution.
ОтветитьIn regards to RHYTHM I believe I have the perfect analogy.
"A drummer to a band is the same as a wave to a Surfer." 🎸☮️💕
As a teacher and a 50 yr player, I agree...with the BIG THREE components of music in view RHYTHM MELODY HARMONY
RHYTHM is king, melody is queen harmony is the throne
I agree rhythm and timing over fancy chord shapes, although I do like me some chords
ОтветитьLove your content. What’s the best way to focus on and improve rhythm?
ОтветитьSo important, they wrote a song…
It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) Duke Ellington / Irving Mills.
and further I'm practicing scales again, playing them clear. Like beato showed in a video. Anyways, I think the most important thing here is that I'm playing again at all.
ОтветитьI came up with something the other day, made a short of it, but now I play it already differently. Picking and chords, I usually come up with something and then reconsider the playability of it
Ответитьwell fancy stuff is cool. But you gotta just practice more to get it rhythmically working, right. So I disagree with ''obsessing'' over them is a mistake. The sound of a major 7 chord is still boring even though it has some fancy rhythm. It's somewhere in between probably where the juice is at. Word.
ОтветитьNearly every clip I watch of yours makes me pick up my guitar and play what is shown... Thank you for the inspiration.
ОтветитьI’m not paid to think. 🙂
Rhythm is what makes us move. Increasingly complex harmonies are what led us to Wagner and the insatiable desire to “Kill Da Wabbitt!!”
So, yes. Rhythm. 😎
Simple chords with good rhythm will ALWAYS work. There are places for extended chords. Being too fancy too soon is like putting a tiara on a bowling ball.
