There was once a hilarious plan for Liechtenstein to buy Alaska which is 11,000 times bigger than Liechtenstein!

Basically, when Russia put Alaska up for sale the Austrians thought about buying it but they didn’t want to buy it outright as that may anger the British and Americans. So their idea was to loan Liechtenstein the money to buy Alaska and in return they’d give Austria military, and economic
rights to the territory so they’d own it in all but name

It obviously didn’t go through but would have been a hilarious but if history had it happened!

Switzerland literally just does half of the things for Liechtenstein instead of Liechtenstein

Fun fact: Liechtenstein was quite close to becoming one of the biggest countries on Earth as Russia offered them Alaska since they had close with the royal family
