really the bolters should have an underbarrel lasgun, connected to the suit power systems for infinite ammo. it could be used for lesser targets to conserve bolt ammunition or just to provide your own covering fire while reloading.

Any reasonable space marine would pick up a lasgun then laugh, throw it away, and use the built in flashlight on their armour instead.

Reminds me of a detail i love where astartes weren't even meant to rely on boltors but instead vulkite weapons but boltors were easier to both produce and maintain and more versatile so thats what they use

The early space marine sculpts (Rogue Trader era) had a few armed with Lasgun. Iirc it was the standard armament for all the Imperial forces, and some had option for a boltgun or multimelta or whatever.

No lasgun should be scoffed at.
If it has a lasbat it will do an incredible amount of damage efficiently and effectively as is it's purpose.
Autoguns are the lemons of 40k and even some of those are pretty strong too but they will never beat a near infinite ammo well regulated and maintained standard issue Las rifle.

Common lasguns are already powerful in their own right. Then there are units/armies who uses lasguns that are more powerful. An example is the Krieg's lasgun, more punch than usual lasgun, but with a fewer shot. And they are standard equipment
