Disgusting interruptions by commercials... why can't they play between movements or before and after. I just can't bother. I'll buy the dvd.

I am sick of these commercials interrupting this awesome and moving music. The commercials need to come at the beginning of the video!!

A shattering performance by THE MAESTRO, of Maestros, Leonard Bernstein. Proving himself yet again to be absolutely committed to fulfilling Mahler's unearthly demands as none else has ever done. In this astonishing performance, Here, more than ever in my experience, the legendary Mahlerian goes where none has ever dared go and then keeps going...prepare yourself...!!!

I like Mahler.
I like the first and third parts. But that orgasm at the end is musical kitsch, a banal intoxication. Distasteful.

Los últimos cinco minutos de la sinfonía fueron telúricos. A Bernstein se le salía el corazón del pecho, literalmente gritaba de emoción para descargar toda la tensión acumulada en el último movimiento.😯🥺😥

This is a terrific performance and I absolutely love it. No part of it, Edinburgh Festival Chorus, London Symphony Orchestra, Leonard Bernstein, Sheila Armstrong and of course the great Janet Baker are anything less than absolutely at the top of their game. There is only one thing that niggles. It may be1973 but this, with the exception of the harpists, is an all male orchestra. Move forward fifty years to the movie Maestro where this Ely Cathedral scene is recreated also with the London Symphony Orchestra and the players are much more evenly divided between men and women. A positive move wouldn't you say?
@sharonmullins1599 the LSO has always been a self-governing orchestra so Bernstein would have had no say in the composition of it's members.

I was born in 1977, 4 years after this performance. My parents do not enjoy classical music and so it took time for me to enjoy this great music. Wonderful music and remarkable performance! Particularly, the first movement itself is a symphonic poem to me.

Bernstein is the best at Mahler and Stravinsky. Ives isn't bad, either. Forget anything earlier.
