I used to be monochromatic and I have to say I forced myself to introduce some colours to brighten up my face because after a certain age, black and grey just doesn’t make any favours. Black is still my favorite colour but I avoid buying black tops and coats.
As for jeans, I used to work in consulting with a very strict dress code so I never really worn jeans. I started to wear them again a couple of years ago and, again, they make me look much younger. Although I sort of disagree with 2 of your tips, I really enjoy the series. Different things work for different people in different age ranges.
Please keep up the videos, I really enjoy them!

I think a really fun video would be for you to randomly pick an item from your wardrobe from different categories such as a top, a bottom, a show, a layering piece, an accessory, etc. and put them together. Or show how to adjust them. It would really put a capsule, monochromatic wardrobe to the test!

I prefer to wear dresses... would that be cheating the blindfold challenge? :) Love your style and your conversations about fashion! So refreshing to have someone who "geeks out" over it as well.

A couple thoughts. I do think personal style can evolve over time and with lifestyle. In my 20s I had no style! In my 30s I was working in a corporate job and seeing clients in London and I gravitated to knee-length skirts or dresses and high heels. In my downtime I was a committed skinny jean wearer. Now I don’t work in an office and am moving to a more casual, rural place I’m into maxi and midi dresses with a more manageable heel or boot and relaxed and wide-fit jeans. You might think you have ‘found’ your personal style but still be open to things shifting over time. I’m also now hesitant to de-clutter any items unless they are unflattering or worn out. You never know when something might fit back in with your style. There are a few things I got rid of thinking they didn’t fit with my personal style and now I’d love to have them back. Just put them into storage if you have the space so they don’t take up room in your closet. Love your videos.

I also stopped wearing denim from my late 20's until I turned 40 last year. Then, I suddenly started to wear my old Helmut Lang/ Miu Miu/ Edwin or Wrangler jeans from my university student years again! I got so many compliments about my 2nd change of style which made me feel so good. It also felt so good to see that those denims still do fit me after all those years!
I also went to a very monochromatic phase in my 30's. I started to reintroduce colors in my wardrobe only last year. It gave me a second youth and I've been even more adventurous (orange, pink, light blue, print) than in my 20's!
So, who knows? Maybe you will transform your style again in a few years!

Great info!!! I stopped wearing denim jeans but now find myself wearing black denim. My wardrobe has slowly evolved over these many years to become monochrome by happenstance. I do like it better and your correct...It does make getting dressed easier but dangerous of becoming boring.

Your videos come across as very thoughtful which reflects the thoughtfulness and analysis you’ve done for your own style. Based on the fashion videos I’ve watched a few tips that are helping me are: quality over quantity, monochrome can be so elegant, classic over trendy maybe a better value. Still learning. You’ve been very helpful plus I enjoy your videos. 😊

I agree with you.... quality over quantity. I to as well use to purchase a lot from H&M and Zara and the quality just wasn’t there. I now purchase less but I wait for the sales from Neiman’s, Net-a-Porter or Nordstrom. I enjoyed the tips!!

Great tips. I think I'll work toward giving up denim but use black denim as the bridge into trousers. I stay away from too much color and pattern, it makes things so much easier and looks more rich.

Since January I also started to apply the rule of buying one item per month. Thought I was the only one :D when I told about this to my friends they looked at me like its not possible....... It all starts with appreciating my own wardrobe be thankful for what I have and smartly buy one item per month instead of being constantly pushed by media or social media into shopping which is so bad for my bank account and the environment. And since I was buying only one item I could really do a nice research about what I was going to buy and choose which brand I was gonna support with my purchase. I am trying to support more sustainable brands. Is anybody else here that is trying to buy one fashion item per month?

I haven’t been wearing denim too much in my 20s but after 35+ I rediscovered it! And I love my denim straight leg jeans! Denim works increasingly well and chic with t-shirts, smart blouses, white relaxed cotton shirts, blazers, sweaters,... and it does suit my better at my age now rather than 10 years ago. It is absolutely normal to change your style/preferences over the time. Whatever looked great “then” doesn’t necessarily have the same power “now”. The same goes for color. As much as I adore black I have to admit that it is not as complimentary for me as it used to be in the past (though some various textured black outfits have a great potential in my wardrobe); so, I just embrace the fact that my face, complexion, hair etc are different and some other colors nay look beneficial.
All in all, I guess there is no unique transformation formula that would work for everyone, but it is absolutely interesting to have a sneak peek at other person’s evolution in style ;)

I am extremely interested in this topic! I have found it easier to come up with different outfits when I have downsized and edited my wardrobe significantly. However I have added more denim haha! It is my vibe right now. But maybe I will add some sophistication by getting a pair of white denim trousers. You have such a dreamy wardrobe, I love your recent Balenciaga coat and blazer additions. I would like to see more of your wardwobe, what you have and use.

All of your tips are totally valid and can apply to anyone (and people can alter them to fit themselves)! For example, if you love pink, white and cream you could make that your "monochrome" wardrobe. For me personally I'm in line with you, trying to buy more monochrome this year and I am also only investing in preloved luxury pieces. I still love prints, so its hard to cut that out but sticking to black/white/gray prints helps a lot.

Thank you for sharing this. In my personal style journey I find myself heading towards your last point ie. gravitating towards less and less color. You're right, monochrome looks chic, saves time and money. I never seem to get the wear out of my colored items as much as the neutral ones.

I love the ease of monochrome dressing! I save up and purchase what I need/want if it’s perfection. I’ll go a full year sometimes without buying any new items. Taking superb care of what I have and then playing with combinations keeps it interesting. Gratitude saves a lot of time and money.

A pop of color is my boost of happy, interesting or quirky interest. Kelly green, a blue red, royal purple or blue tend to be my happy pops. I also love a soft pink when I want to feel ultra feminine without literal frills. I’ll stick with a base monochrome and then play with the details. It makes dressing easy and fun.
