Hi Barry, as I write this your location has a tsunami approaching, hope all goes well, head for the hills (get your valuables off the boat) as its forcast 1.5m and will inundate coastal areas and pile up in harbours. Latest quake was a magnitude 8 out at the Kermadecs jeez!!

Nothing like plastic being used for parts nothing like plastic wear out faster than anything you have ever seen, plastic shouldn't be used for anything besides a drinking bottle, and heaven forbid there ever used for beer!

We're currently painting our house down in Guatemala - we're having to move everything from furniture to junk, paint chips everywhere from power-washing the sides, ladders inside and outside the house....just a frustrating mess. Barry your inspiration to me, I've retired early in life, and I've always kicked the idea around of getting a sailboat and sailing around the oceans a little bit have not done a bit of it yet, but like I said your inspiration I started watching your shows or I should say your videos about a year ago I'm single man, nothing holding me back, I've been preparing to batten down the hatches on what I have here in the states buy me a sailboat, a worthy one, sail around the Caribbean for about a winter, get everything just right and I'm going to retrace your footsteps and wanting to do this ever since I was a kid, I am not getting any younger and I got to have at least one more Grand adventure in my life there's been many, to my inspiration, my hat's off to you thank you.

Hi Barry, I recently watched your interview on Beyond 50 with Todd Sargeant. I found it very inspirational and informative as well as entertaining. You hit the proverbial nail on the head with your insite.
I think you articulated very well what many men our age think about their lives and how they want to do something special and meaningful before it's all over.

I am living vicariously through you as I'm saving up for my first sailboat. When did you start sailing? I saw the old videos when you bought White Shadow. I'm just curious, did you own a learning boat before you bought Shaddie or was all of your experience from working in the shipyard? (If I remember correctly)

Seadog, you are a great guy, and I treasure your vids, but truth be told, I would not own a steel boat unless it were made of high-grade stainless steel, and as much as I'd love to have a sailboat, I would not want yours. More trouble than a cranky woman.

In 1991 through 1993 I ate a pint of Haagendaz each night for 3 years didn't gain a pound!

I know its a bit late but these boats when on hard standing are very high up and those ladders are sketchy especially going down. Also the props holding up the boat dont seem to be anywhere near solid enough or in sufficient quantity.
