Closely related to chives, scallions & garlic, this perennial of the Alliaceae family can be used similarly, offering a strong, spicy, aromatic flavor.
Harvest & Use
• Its root bulbs and aerial bulblets can be used like mini onion-garlic.
• All plant parts, when tender, can be eaten raw or cooked.
• Harvest Season: Leaves: early to mid spring and late summer thru early winter. Flower buds: mid spring. Flower and top bulblet: late spring-early summer. Root bulbs: late fall thru the winter and into early spring.
• Flavor: strong, pungent, spicy, aromatic onion-garlic flavor.
