Do research on the efficacy of cold red light/ laser in healing. I use ours for sore joints, wound healing, hurt muscles. It was recommended to me by a friend who is a long time pharmacist. There are many available from $100 to $10000 (pro level used by osteopaths and chiropractors). Ours was about $250.) You just focus the light from a few inches away for about fifteen minutes, every other day. This has sound scientific basis, well researched and tested, just little known.
We watched a close friend heal a shoulder that doctors said would always be a mess, and used the light to bring his other shoulder back after surgery in half the time it might normally. He is a charter captain/fisherman and is able to use the 'declared dead' shoulder pretty much as normal now, even though it looks pretty funky and droopy. No pain and back to a functional strength.
You can get them on the 'zon. Read the reviews. There are many offerings. Ours has two wave lengths and does an intermittent as well, blinking.
You have lots of time now to read up on this. It might speed your total healing time.
And take a deep breath every once in a while. I sank my boat in a new zealand winter storm. The fact that the entire crew was safe on that sharp cold rock made the total loss of the boat seem insignificant. Celebrate the good fortune every day and you will soon be back at it and now that your schedule is different, we may meet up someday. Our next stop is Tonga, then perhaps Fiji for a bit before getting to NE Oz by November.

Guys soo sorry about the injury, as you said Erica feel yourself so luck that incident did not occur during a passage. Always look at the full side of the glass. If there is solution do not worry it would just lets you sit back and slow down. It is not the end of the world. Sit tight get well soon. Wish you a speedy recoveries Erica. Think about it when I first broke my leg during skiing I was just 13 years old second time again during skiing I have been taken to the hospital my leg was almost in two pieces doctors even talking about amputation how ever I have had a successful op and now I am 63 and healthy as well as in one piece enjoying every moment of my life. Do not worry you are young will get better soon and will enjoy every moment in your life but with every age you take you will need to slow down and act slower so you do not harm yourself. Hi Erica, please think of this incident as something that has prevented something worser, I have seen that alot in my lifetime. The recovery won't be easy, it will be long but you will fully recover and continue your adventures with Warren. Wish you a speedy recovery.

Yes, it IS the universe sending down a brick on you - and if you don't listen, sooner or later the whole friggin wall will come down! I don't mean to get into your beeswax, but, health insurance (a real policy) is something you both should have, as you are not getting any younger, and you both are far from being couch potatoes :). You WILL heal, Erica, and yes, you will be a landlubber for a wee bit. Try to adjust the bean to enjoy the change of pace. And remember, absence doth make the heart grow fonder XOXOXO

My 81 year old mom had this happen. It was in August. After surgery and rehab, she waa able to walk the streets of New York with me and my sister by the first of December. It was a hard process and you are very lucky to have help. But I know you will bounce back better than ever. Praying for fast and full recovery.

This hurts seeing you crying. From a man's point of view, it's a tough position to be in with not being able to do anything to help your wife. My wife had spinal cord surgery and was left disabled and it is heart wrenching not being able to fix what's wrong for the one you love. Our hearts go out to both of you and hope things go well and y'all get back to sailing soon.

As a Canadian I can not imagine not just injured but worrying about insurance and paying for it .

At 19 , you fall off a roof and bounce and laugh about it . By 40 you get hurt dancing , by 60 you can have a sleeping accident where you sleep wrong and it takes 4 months to get better .

Hi Erika, I love watching your videos from France, and we've already exchanged together because I'm the director of a maritime bookstore in France. The same thing happened to me as it did to you 4 years ago! You're going to have to be patient, it's a long process. You're going to have 2 casts, then a leg brace to get your foot extended, then a long rehabilitation. The more rehabilitation you do, the sooner you'll walk normally again, but it should take between 6 and 8 months. So, courage to you both. Kisses

Well that just sucks 🤔We started on our sailing trip last year from Oregon currently in Mexico. I have broken my right ankle at 16 from horseback riding fall, then my right leg twice! I have bigger plates and screws the second time for the leg. Anyway, I am 66 and nothing really slows me down but somewhere before Ensenada, my right hip starts hurting like a son of gun - couldn’t sleep could barely walk. I rested it and just now, it’s starting to recover - over 6 months. 😡 it’s so aggravating as injuries are never planned and always frustrating and unexpected. You are young! I know it’s tough and annoying seems overwhelming. Grab a pillow and have a good scream - you deserve it. I was tinking soo many of your followers are dealing with stuff in their lives that are so much worse. So try to be grateful. I am not trying to belittle your injury, it is a rough thing to go thru. Blew both of mine 11 months apart. The Referee said he heard mine go. A good two months of elastic work every day, slowing getting to walking, to running, to back to normal. You can do quite a bit in a walking boot (after few weeks). Good luck on recovery, hopefully it goes well.
