What is the famous art form of your state?
I recently went to Kerala in search of a unique art form - an extraordinary 800-year-old mirror-making tradition unlike any other in the world. In a small village Aranmula, I explored the Vishwakarma community's incredible craft of creating mirrors not from glass, but from METAL.
What made this experience truly remarkable was meeting Sudamal, the only woman who single-handedly manages this traditionally male-dominated craft. She sits for eight hours daily in front of a fire, carefully shaping these special mirrors by hand.
These aren't ordinary mirrors. When you look into them, the reflection appears differently - you are able to view the direct reflection without any distortion. Each mirror is a testament to generations of skill passed down through a single community in Kerala.
The small village was filled with mirror shops, but witnessing the actual crafting process was mesmerizing. I learned about the very detailed techniques and the rich cultural heritage behind these unique mirrors.
Through videos like this, I aim to show the incredible skills of our hardworking Indian artisans that most people never get to see!
