Hey Ben, have you seen the new thing about windows that are solar? It's not through Tesla.
*you guys really should practice your send-off, it cracks me up every time cause you stumble over each other.
there is a bat in that tree so they could not cut it down
ОтветитьIn the same time period as the Ebola out break over 9000 kids died from measles, we have vaccine for measles.
Ответитьlook at the failures that were involved in the learning curve of the appollo program. testing to destruction.
ОтветитьMoon landing - why don't they just... design the engines to let 3 engines run super lean - i.e.. using lots of O2 as reaction mass, and burning just enough methane to run the pumps and make sure the oxygen gasifies for reliable thrust.
A nice bit is that you can put an O2 factory pretty much anywhere on the moon's surface to refuel. Maybe even carry one with you on Starship. Not so easy to get methane on the moon, away from the poles or even there without some source of carbon.
Wait, did Ben do his pushups already? When??
ОтветитьMan, hearing them talk about thermodynamics was rooooooouuuuughhh
ОтветитьHey! Tim only did 19???
ОтветитьYou did 100 push-ups - impressive.
ОтветитьThat lone tree had a bat nest and Germany wanted to wait till the nest could be moved.
ОтветитьMy favorite quote (last words?) from last week was Tim saying that a video on landing legs would be an easy quick video. ;) like aerospikes, raptor, pollution! Seriously, it's great to see you love learning and going deep.
ОтветитьMy favorite part of every episode is whenever Ben jumps into a random discussion and says, "Oh yeah, I used to work in that field as a..." I think last week it was a WELDER! Ben's complete resume must be really REALLY eclectic! Thanks for the smiles!
ОтветитьI wouldn't have been surprised if it was Cod'y Lab though, lol.
ОтветитьTim, "carrots" are solid and they are toxic. And radioactive!
ОтветитьProof of paralel world is the most ridicolous idea ever concived just in line with spacetime
ОтветитьLanding thrusters added to the RCS on the base of Starship to make Tim feel safe.
ОтветитьIndependent news is being crushed by the influx of "legitimate" mainstream news. I'm not sure it's it would be any different for other channels. Also, can't believe I just found this channel. Thanks for great content.
ОтветитьSo I have a Why don't they just, ban personalized transport vehicles or cars, personalized transport doesn't make sense, take a train or a bus. The point of the car was to get you from where you are to where you wanted to be and to choose your own route doing it. Most people going to work or going on holiday or meeting family all choose the shortest quickest path. They do not need a car but they use it anyway, everyone "needs" a car nowadays it's a common commodity not a luxury a I believe it should be. Up the infrastructure of trains, make all trains electric because that is not hard, make trains automated that is not hard. And as a result the public transport is transporting the people at a fraction the effort that every single personalized transport vehicle does it.
Pardon my english and behold here my opinion as a young adult on the internet :P
There needs to be more drinking.
ОтветитьYou guys are THE WORST at segways - one of the many reasons why I love you all three wonderful dudes in these podcasts. And you´ve have gotten A LOT better at it than you used to be... that says it all :-D Keep giving me my weekly fix guys - the only podcast I´m addicted to ;-)
ОтветитьSuicide burn Falcon 9 style landing with Starship on Earth at the end of a dive flip is ok, but suicide burn after steady kerbal style decel on Moon isn't?
Am I missing a factor (besides being beyond any help) that would make it more complicated to land on the moon?
re: Starship landing on the moon.
Yes: 3 raptors are massive overkill. One raptor is. One BE-3U (710kN) is. This is why BE-7 (40kN+deep throttle) is a thing.
Also: Why would you want to carry the extra mass of the aerodynamic surfaces and the three sea-level optimized engines?
Also: If the payload is above the nearly-empty propellant tanks, that raises the center of mass to where tippiness is a concern.
Also: needing a crane to lower payload to the surface adds mass. The best part is no part.
Carrying "the best part is no part" to its logical conclusion, the "Starship" variant that will eventually land on the moon will probably look as much like the current design as an octopus looks like a human. Masten is probably way ahead of SpaceX in designing a workable lander. Practicing on a smaller scale (Moonhopper?) is probably a good idea.
BTW, Roscosmos actually reuses some of the fallen boosters by cutting them down and making public transport vehicles. One of their latest project is a modernized tram, for example.
ОтветитьI love Tim's long videos.
ОтветитьHow long will it be until a Tesla with sentry mode gets subpoenas as evidence in a major crime.
ОтветитьAs a new driver born with glochoma and cataracts, lost my right eye at age 8.... tesla is basically my perfect car due to the information on screen and the large numbers that wont take me 20 seconds to read. It telling me roughly where traffic is without me having to turn my head right is much safer
ОтветитьLove the idea of putting your own vids on the stick in the correct format. Might do that for some movies.
Ответитьthe one tree still standing in berlin was because of an ant colony that had to be moved first..... the tree is gone by now
ОтветитьWhat's a Tezla??? Ben, you're from San Diego and you aren't Elon.
ОтветитьDon't worry Joe, Astrophysicists won't scream their screens, shrieking at how backward your backward-universe theory is.
It's the Theoretical Physicists who'll scream at you.
A-A-A-AAAAAAARGH!
You're conflating the Quantum Arrow of Time with the Thermodynamic arrow of time. To explain the difference between the two, I'll use a Timelord analogy.
Quantum physics assumes that Time is a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey wimey, stuff. However, at the classical limit, there is a mechanism that causes the wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey to cancel out, such that when we reach Thermodynamic macroscales, Time becomes the (somewhat strict) progression of cause to effect that we're familiar with. And this is borne out by experiment: Quantum field theory requires the timey-wimey to deal with the infinities of renormalisation as well as the CPT theorem. The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics is based on the law of linear Cause-to-Effect.
As to the exact nature of the mechanism that causes the Quantum timey-wimey to cancel out, leaving the cause-effecty Thermodynamic Arrow of Time, the answer is... We Don't Know!
(The Arrow of Time problem is one of the great unsolved mysteries of Physics).
So if I'm not sure why (or if) Joe was wrong to equate the micro and macroscopic arrow of time, what was that scream all about?
Oh, I wasn't screaming at Joe being wrong, I was screaming because we don't know how the quantum time arrow relates to the thermodynamic arrow, and we now there's an experiment that absolutely rests on us answering that mystery otherwise we have a scientific paradox.
A-A-A-AAAAAAARGH!
The way government contracting works is NASA identifies a set of milestone toward achieving a goal - in this case flying astronauts to the ISS. Payments are tendered as milestones are achieved. If NASA told Boeing that they failed to meet a milestone then Boeing would "independently decide" to fly another unmanned demo mission.
ОтветитьOne interesting feature in Syracuse NY there is one light in the Irish section of town that the green light is on top and red on the bottom. The only place in the US.
Ответитьthe matching beards are a little creepy.
ОтветитьBoeing: "How can we reuse all those 737 Max parts?"
ОтветитьThose trees were being grown for cardboard production. They're a crop that's planted by every paper company. Usually rotated every 30 years or so.
ОтветитьFalcon and Falcon 9 were originally going to come back on parachute without perpuslive reentry.
ОтветитьAbout GIGA Berlin... Its Not about offsetting the trees ! It was a Forrest planted to be harvested one day and it was time ^^ so yeah no probs there
ОтветитьFor the parallel universe thing, you sure someone just didn't plug in a sensor backwards?
Ответитьso why not just build a green roof over the entire complex. probably won't get to the same 02 output of trees, but it's a start, especially if you're smart about what you plant.
Ответитьjoe said it ! omg
