How Do You Get Started As An Audio Engineer?

Hey, this video was very helpful, i've just about started Audio-Video uni. I have no experience before. Could you recomend me how to learn mixing from scratch

I’m a competent musician with some experience with mixing and producing. Is audio engineering something I can learn on the job through experience like an apprenticeship program or do I need to get a degree in this field to get started?
