Sub panel
Thank you for your time and video.
I have a separate panel that is not connected to the house. Its just in the yard and it powers my garage, my barn and a pump. There are 3 double pole, 60 amps each pole , breakers in this panel. For the breaker that powers the creek pump, 12 gauge wires that read 220V go down to power a creek pump. The pump was just on the ground. I have since built a pump house around it. Could i power a sm panel box with these wires and run a 220 pump and an outlet each with there own breaker? I need to plug in a heater to keep the pump from freezing in the winter.
Thank you 🙏
He mounted the panel upside down.
You never should run supply wires around the inside of the box, supply wires should go direct as possible.
If he turned the panel lugs down it would had been proper.
Hey, man. This video was actually super, super helpful. About to run a 100-amp panel for my barn from main panel on the house. Thank you so much for this vid.
ОтветитьI follow you closely. you are a real master. Thank you very much for the information you provided. I am also an electrician, but I need more experience and knowledge. There is a saying in our country. "The master promises and does not keep secrets." In other words, he does not want to teach his profession entirely to apprentices. In Europe and America, this is the opposite. All masters make great efforts to perfectly transfer their knowledge to other generations. Thank you very much for the information you provided. ОтветитьReally good video! Love all the attention to every detail.👍
ОтветитьFor the ground rod, I have found a fence post pounder to work well for the first stages of getting that rod most of the way in. It is easier on the body and lessens the chance of bending the rod….or hitting your hand with the large hammer…..☺️ Do I speak from experience? Yeah, I do. 😣. Ouch.
ОтветитьFantastic detail!
ОтветитьIn the main panel the two breaker 100 amp each connect to the sub panel
ОтветитьNice video, you know what you are doing.
ОтветитьAre you allowed to run water lines in that space below the panel?
ОтветитьHow long does it take to install 8 space 100 amp subpanel by a professional
Ответитьwhat size was your main panel breaker , im thinking its a 200 amp?
ОтветитьAs an Ohio master electrician. I can say this video is 90 to 100% correct. Depending on your local AHJ, well done.
ОтветитьGreat video, but I would suggest investing in a circuit tester to test the receptacle. They are very inexpensive and just plug into the outlet where a series of lights will illuminate telling you not only if you have power, but if the circuit is wired correctly. Most of them also have a button you can press to test your GFCI outlets. They are a very inexpensive sanity check for anyone who doesn't wire up outlets for a living, and I would highly recommend getting one.
ОтветитьIf I need to add a subpanel at my house this will be a video I return to again and again.
ОтветитьThank you very thorough and nicely paced also appreciate the emphasis on safety and planning ahead before starting
ОтветитьSeveral code violations here. At least in my area. 1 water lines way to close. 2 100 amp breaker should be the last thing installed in main when work is done. 3 only copper wire direct. 4 in a sense, you hooked all grounding rods together. This area, you don't ground the sub with a ground rod but you do to main and then meter box ground and neutral.
ОтветитьThis is the best video i have seen yet. Easy and comprehensive.
ОтветитьYour video is pretty good, but as a former custom build contractor, with 10yr warranties on our homes, we have a few suggestions;
1) Never run water lines anywhere near your electrical. Water & electricity never work good together.
2) from your meter loop or from your main panel into your home, you should always use, at a minimum of 3/0 copper. We always used 4/0 copper never aluminum.
Aluminum from the transformer to your meter loop is allowed by NEC 2/0 in air 4/0 under ground.
3) Always refer any installer to the NEC book and Ugly’s electrical reference book.
How many Amps is your Main Panel?
ОтветитьWhat is your main panel rated for? Amperage wise
ОтветитьWhy didn't you flip the subpanel so the disconnect was at the bottom? That would have saved you a few feet of wire and routing.
ОтветитьThank you.
ОтветитьGood video. Very concise and easy to understand. I'm in Industrial learning Residential and I'm impressed!
ОтветитьThank you for making this video. It’s great to try to teach people. I hope you are humble enough to continue learning. Im not being a typical whiny electrician i just want to give some advice. You could have put the main breaker on the bottom and saved a little gutter space. Noalox is not required on AA8000 wire (aluminum alloy) but it doesn’t hurt. However, if you're going to use it you should apply it to the wire and then work it in with emery cloth or a wire brush. Then you should torque your connections as this is not a local requirement its NEC required due to manufacturer requirement. Lastly, the breaker feeding that panel needs to be 90 amps as #2 aluminum in the 75° column is only rated for 90A. This is not nit picking, it sounds like a lot of people enjoy your videos so i am hoping to contribute to your ability to help others. ⚡️
ОтветитьThank you, sir, most excellent video.
ОтветитьExcellent video by an Excellent Laborer and seemingly good dude👍✊🇺🇸
ОтветитьThe compound is not required by the NEC anymore
ОтветитьI'm now gona go install my sub pannel!!
I'm now gona check if it works
I'm now gona have a beer and enjoy a show
Around here in Middle Tennessee, your lucky if you can get two feet in. It's typical to toss them horizontally in the 30" trench.
ОтветитьI appreciate the details in this video, including calling out what isn't required by code in your area but may be in others. Very helpful!
ОтветитьAMAZING informative video. The best explanation I've seen yet. Thank you.
ОтветитьI found that a cheap solution for driving those ground bars is a fence post driver it works amazing to get it the majority of the way in and you don't even need a ladder
ОтветитьThank You 😊
ОтветитьI wish I could like this video twice
ОтветитьI am in the process of becoming a home inspector and starting my own business. This video showed up on my recommendations so i gave it a shot. I have to say after completing 180+ hourse of online inspection school and learning about everything in a home, The electrical modules were a bit confusing for me (especially the service panels).
The way you showed us how the panel is properly installed and explained everything to the T is incredible.
You broke down each and every detail in a way that made it easier for us to understand and follow along.
I was engaged the entire video, you have my respect brother and thank you for helping me out. I subscribed and looking forward to watching your other videos! Thanks again man!
I burnt down three houses so far , after using this video but then finally got my last house built and wired no sparks so far!!
ОтветитьWhere did you get the neutral connector in your main for your sub panel?
ОтветитьI've watched several other "how to" sub-panel videos, and none of them compare to the way you go through step-by-step. This one is by far top-notch! I don't leave comments much but have to agree with some I read below. I like the way you explain EVERYTHING! You don't assume anything of the viewer and make sure you describe everything you are doing, what tools to use, how to do it and why. Some of the simplest things most leave out, but for the inexperienced here looking to learn, it's great info that others may assume we know. Thank you!
Ответитьi have a cuestion, so need ground from Maine panel, plus grounded bar?
ОтветитьWhat is the reason why you ran aluminum wire instead of copper?
ОтветитьAre you going to update this to account for the service disconnect requirement change?
ОтветитьFinally someone actually showed the install in the main box, everyone seems to skip that part. Thank you for the info!
ОтветитьVery well explained thank you.
ОтветитьVery good explanation and attention to detail. Like your work.
ОтветитьMy compliment
ОтветитьAluminum Wire has not been used in manufactured homes (mobile homes) since the 80's man.
ОтветитьThe ground part can be put and tightened on the rod before you start hammering, then you can start hammering. No antioxidant paste is needed to be applied before hammering?
