I want to let anyone know that Zack is producing Damascus looking knives we lost the know how how to produce Dmascus steel. Layers of the Damascus steel probably came from some form of chemical reaction they performed years ago not from physical trauma that knives are put in.

Iunno man 1500$ for a knife? I am not an expert but I know a good blacksmith and even with the master carpenter involved 300 bucks for a knife that will outlast the user. 100k on equipment and doesn't have heat treating oven furnance. Lil bizare. But hey if there are buyers why not, these knives cool but not 1500$+ cool

Lol, the thumbnail, and opening shot combined with the title will mislead people. That's what you have to do if you want to profit, though, right? Damascus steel is neither harder nor sharper nor "better" in any objective way. Indeed, the heterogeneity of the grains would seem to make it more likely to crack than regular steel. Congrats on doing what you all seem to take as a central task of your business, now, though, which is to lead people in with a lie. I realize that you win, since I'm leaving a comment, and that's all that matters to folks like you. So I went ahead and gave you a thumbs-down and blocked your channel, as well. You got me once! Hope it was worth it.

This is absolute horseshit. What we call Damascus steel now and the historical term are different. The modern version is what is described here. It does not produce a superior blade. The best it can do is almost as good as a mono steel or San mai steel blade. The problem with Damascus is, every single weld is a potential point of failure, and some faults are undetectable. If you start with a bar of mono steel and grind it to shape before heat treating, you can know that it is utterly free of structural flaws. That is not possible with Damascus. Damascus requires forging, with always risks introducing stress flaws. Historical Damascus was just steel that came from the region of Damascus, and they likely had access to a source of iron with additional elements that produced good steel for swords. The properties of steel can vary considerably based on the specific alloy.

any thing thats "expensive" is ONLY expensive because humans placed a price on it. theres no need for a 10 min vid to explain this. doesnt matter how much work it took to build these things. many great things have been built during human existence and given away for free. so yeah....

Eh, damascus has nothing to do with how sharp a knife is... You can sharpen cheap gas station knives to be razor sharp. Edge retention is another thing, but... don't make the claim damascus has anything to do with a knife being sharp. Someone knowing how to sharpen a knife has to do with a knife being sharp.

Honestly, you can simply buy Damascus steel and craft your knife from it... the idea of Damascus steel was to combine lesser quality steel with higher quality to get a costeffective acceptable quality... not more, not less...

Damascus steel knives are all hype. My primary kitchen knife was bought from a poundshop. I keep it scary scarp all the time and the cooks were always trying to borrow it.
In my experience domestic male cooks buy Damascus steel knives and they know nothing about how to use or maintain them.

Damascus has nothing to do with sharpness, on the contrary, to make the sharpest blade you want an uniform mixture.
Perhaps 300 years ago the claims were true but not today in the age were we can make perfectly uniform mixtures of steel with titanium... these days Damascus is ONLY decorative.
Check your facts.
