The so-called "American" car culture is nothing more than a dick measuring contest, where these so-called enthusiasts think a car should be judged based on its horsepower and body kits and big wings make a car ricey, which is a racist terminology BTW (if you understand its origins), because it isn't practical in making the car faster. I don't consider that kind of mindset as a form of individualism. A real car enthusiast has a love of cars no matter what it looks like or how fast it is, because it reminds us all of being a child, growing up with the color changing hot wheels and the remote control cars we grew up playing with. I can understand if you're not into something, but shitting on someone else's expression of their version of love for cars surely doesn't make you an enthusiast. You don't have to like how someone else modifies their car, you just have to acknowledge that it exists, because everyone is different. That is why I believe that Japan has one of the best car enthusiast cultures in the world. They know how to take the word modification to their advantage by recreating a car in their own image. That is true individualism right there.
