Hermes Barenia perfume review on Persolaise Love At First Scent episode 491

I've tested side by side and to my nose the fruity note they used is similar, perhaps toned downed a bit, to the one used in Tutti Twilly (which is lychee focused, but the musk they used in tutti twilly comes off body odorish to me sadly😢) I like Barenia a lot better! Xx

Did you eventually figure out that it says it’s the first chypre created by Christine Nagel for Hermès, not the first chypre by Hermès?

Your review has convinced me not to purchase. Sounds a bit ho hum.

I feel like the term chypre is used to label anything that can be considered "grown up/sophisticated/mature" these days regardless of it's structure, and in that sense I guess it apples here. I liked it very much but when I think of a true chypre though I'll always think of Cristalle.

Sampled it last weekend and I liked it. As you say, it’s clear and translucent and maybe one for the autumn. I love the box and the shape of the bottle but the ‘studs’ are a tad twee!

I can't wait to try Barenia. (I adore the bottle) I had emailed Hermes last week asking for a sample. Im not a high dollar spender at H, but I live 4 hours away from the closest store, so it'll be interesting if they mail me a sample or not.:)

Ok, that photo ad of the woman looks like a pharmaceutical advertisement for a menopause drug. That said, I have a travel sample of this perfume and liked it so much I may have to go for a bottle! When I first spayed it I immediately thought of Galop, though not that it smells like it, just a flash of recall or similarity of style? Thank you for your review!

Calèche was a woody (hello 15% vetiveryl acetate) floral chypre, and Doblis was also a chypre, both by the master Guy Robert. When I spoke to Hermès about this, they clarified they meant the first "modern chypre" basically as in fruitchouli, like a Coco Mad, but that this distinction would be too confusing to the average consumer. As for Barénia, I like the metallic freshness about it but the sweetness and insipid fruitiness would have to go for me. The structure is solid though.

I find Barenia uninspiring and boring, it is like worse version of Tutti Twilly

You have the most beautiful flowers. I saw one lone 10 ml.barenia at Sephora recently and when I checked online to see what it was I couldn't find much and now it explains why,it's new . Good to hear about it here

I also fell in love with it at first sniff and I couldn't quite put my finger on what exaclty was blended into it, but found it very luminous and nebulous, as you said, not in a naive way, but in a more mature down to earth, restrained way without the boredom. I will certainly get a bottle soon.

Thank you very much for your review. I totally differ from your viewpoint this time. I may be hypernosmic to akigala wood, who knows, but I found Barenia repulsive on skin! It first pleasantly reminded me of Galop, then something horrid literally exploded in my nose, and even though it toned down a bit, the perfume retained that detestable, abrasive smell. At some point it made me think of Jour but without the softness of the florals. Too bad I can't like it at all! Very interesting to hear your thoughts on chypres, thank you again. Best of weeks! 🍀🍀🍀

Yeah I was also confused at the "first chypre" of the brand claim. Not sure who at Hermes decided to go with that because idk lol

Bel Ami is 100% a chypre

I find it very interesting and original against the backgroud of the all latest news. Maybe a little bit on a man's side, but very characterful, quite unisex. I love it.

I just blind buy the 100 ml and i fall in love from the first sniff but it did give me the vibe of Angel from Mugler directly but i still love the smell of it so unique clean beautiful finally something more uniq then all gourmands parfume what come out best purchase till now but still i get the Mugler angel i dont know why

Miracle berry its a real berry :) its something you eat to make everything sour to taste sweet. But i dont recall it having any smell

It's beautiful and so original. It's fresh and sensual at the same time. To me the drydown is gorgeous.

I just ordered a sample. I’ve been seeing that the reviews are mixed, but I tend to like fragrances that are labeled as “chypre.” Although there is a lot of variations within that category. Can’t wait to try this!

I have to disagree Twilly works perfectly from grown ups not just for youngsters… and to me this one is a bit too mature for my 50s !

Not sure if anyone has commented on this yet but I just sprayed Barenia and to me it is very close to Floris Chypress—only the Floris projects significantly more. As such, I wouldn’t say it’s at all original

The Hermes website sorta indicates … “Nagel has created her first chypre perfume for Hermes.” … maybe that was updated after, as I feel like I remember reading “first” prior to now reading .. “first for house.”

I was hopeful that Barenia would be the rose & honey that would work on my skin. It did not. If you like a light rose perfume, this one is for you

Was completely divided at first. Disliked on paper and not tempted until I wore it. Now smitten and find it both smart and sensual. I love the simplicity of the bottle the the classic Hermes silver detail on top, but not overly impressed. Has a very no-nonsense look to it. Thank you for the review.

I smelled a sample in a magazine and fell in love. It's now one of my top 5. Smells....heavenly and different.....sexy, clean and something unexpected in it. Yum.

I know how enticing Christine Nagel creations are. And I love this creation as well, and how it brings me a zesty and honey- sweet tea note. And then comes the woody, and somewhat green accord from a mossy forest. I have tried this fragrance before in the air, as the scent machine diffuses it in this feminine clothing store here in Brazil, called Canal Concept.
Canal Concept is one of the dEssences olfactive marketing clients, but their scent is not for sale. DEssences Olfactive Marketing is GIVAUDAN's client. So, thay explains why I am also one the Mall's visitors who makes a lot of head turns as I pass by this store's entrance.
On my perception, Barenia was created from my own Canal Concept's scenting experience I have had since 2014, that I can remember, because for a few years before that I cannot remember ever sensing a scent diffusion that good.
Since my scent experience with Barenia turns out to be a perfume on cloud spray on skin, I have to say it becomes a more refined olfactive pleasure, of course, but it's struture definitely brings me back to that beautiful and hypnotic olfactive experience I used to feel inside Canal Concept clothing store, here in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
