i’m hard of hearing and when it’s quiet in a room, most people can hear the little sounds—air conditioning, cars going by outside, etcetera—but to me it’s totally silent and it’s anxiety-inducing. if i turn this up very loud it gives me a quiet sound, even if i can just barely hear it, so it’s not eerily silent when i’m trying to sleep.

This is THE video I keep coming back to, as I draft my dissertation at home while on Covid-19 lock down. I feel like I've rented a beautiful Victorian row house for the summer, instead of being stuck in my crackerjack box apartment. The audio also provides just the right amount of white noise. Everything's visually realistic and to scale, and the rain sounds like it's outside (not coming down from the ceiling.) This is just an excellent ambient video.
