Fallout 4 Is Better Than You’ve Been Told

I think in many ways, Fallout 4 is one of Bethesda’s best games in terms of its gameplay loop.

It’s frustrating though because I think the voiced protagonist really holds it back.

I like Fallout 4 a lot though, I think it gets too much hate. Probably just because it’s a Bethesda game.

Spoiler: it's fking not. FNV is still peak.

While I do agree with people that FO4 is quite lackluster as an RPG (especially after playing games like KCD1 & 2, TW3 and BG3), I still enjoy playing it. And I love that Nate and Nora are voiced. Coming from and loving Bioware's RPGs, Im used to having voiced protags. They fit my playstyle much better. I never play as myself and I can still play voiced protags as my own characters despite their voice being set. Thats never been an issue for me. So I really dont get where all the hate for the protag in FO4 being voiced is coming from.

Truth be told, I hated this game at first....then it came out in VR, I put on my Valve Index, and I realized I'm inside a Master Piece. I think with out the Steam VR release I would have never even known about how good this game is.

Thats what Im saying.. FO4 is better than New Vegas andFO3 in almost every way. the better story doesnt help the fact the gun play is doodoo. Boomers with nostalgia hate to hear that.

There is so much wrong about it. At the same time, it's a great demonstration of a typical Bethesda target audience - forget the RPG elements, lets dumb everything down and make it more "approachable" to the lowest common denominator.

From the poor writing, absolutely abysmal dialogue system, dumbed down leveling mechanics, shallow world... This game rips out almost everything that makes an RPG and slapped in crafting and settlement building, which has nothing to do with RPG mechanics...

This is going to be my first fallout, just got it for like 8 bucks, hope it's good

I played Fallout 4 in 2017 absolutely loved it. Today it is my all-time favorite game. It was my first open world RPG, and the humor, building and relationships all ticked a lot of buttons for me. Afterwards I went on to play Skyrim (my #3 fave) and Witcher III (my #2 fave). I believe that one of the reason that Fallout 4, Skyrim and The Witcher are usually rated in the top 5 all time games is that all three were shipped with their console cheats active, meaning that you could not only play the game the way you wanted, but it allowed you to fix bugs and problems as you went. The other thing that helped all three is that all three embraced modding, which make these games infinitely re-playable, because they were able to be new every play through. Fallout 4 would be Bethesda's last playable game. Fallout 76 was little more than a money grab MMO, and Starfield was one of the biggest gaming disappointments in history.

The ‘best’ modern fallout game wasn’t even made by Bethesda, but by Obsidian. There is some fun to be had with this entry, but it felt so shallow, bland and had terrible writing throughout. Also, settlements was handled poorly IMO.

Still think the best one to focus on playing is New Vegas. That’s a diamond in the rough in regards to its performance issues.

I love Fallout 4, it's got some issues but there's really no such thing as a perfect game and Fallout 4 does enough things much better than 3 or New Vegas and introduces the settlement building which is pretty awesome. My main complaints really come down to Preston Garvey's neverending quests and a few other radiant quests that really halted my progress in other areas of the game, especially on my first playthrough when I didn't realize how pointless/endless these quests were in the grand scheme of things.

After replaying most of the fallout games, and new Vegas being one of my favorites, 4 has become my favorite fallout game, the atmosphere is fucking amazing, the settlements are great, and even the writing sometimes being cheesy is amazing, the brotherhood of steel has my favorite group of quests of any fallout games, I had to get a lotta mods just to run new Vegas, 4 just working is pretty great, 4 doesn't deserve the hate it gets, it's a great and fun games

there's a lot to criticize, like in any game of that size. as someone who loves RPGs i especially understand the hate for the fully voiced nate/nora protag, because you're not allowed to create your own headcanon as much as in FNV. but like... it's a different studio??? so obviously their game is going to be different???

Fallout 4 is dogshit because its not fallput and bethesda is trying so damn hard to rewrite everything about the franchise until its an unrecognizable husk of what tim cain created. The best 3d fallout game wasnt even made by bethesda and everything they shitout is no better than a bottle of dogpiss on a hot summer day. Its sad we will never get anything close to what fallout should have been now that todds disgusting finger prints are all over it.

Its trash for a fallout game and I can explain exactly why. 1. The dialogue options are super limited and a very vague approximation of what's actually said by your character. 2. The complete redesign of the game. How bleak the first games felt and looked added to the post-apocalyptic feel of the world. 3. Npc and enemy redesigns. Wtf did they do to ghouls? They went from each one looking fairly unique and like they'd actually been alive hundreds of years to basically just red skull. Its lazy. The same can be said for super mutants and ferals. 4. It feels like it was made with the realisation that despite its ersb rating, kids are still going to play it and make up a large part of their fanbase, so they've made certain plots, stories and quests weirdly kid friendly. 5. Weapons. The unique weapons just look the same as the non unique ones, which is just lazy. Obviously, this is the same in 3, but it can be forgiven because fallout 3 is actually a good fallout game. Lets also not get started on the assault rifle redesign 🤮

Honestly, the only thing I think they did right was the power armour. It actually feels like your character is wearing power armour

Thank godness. Finaly someone who understands that the game is not bad. I hear to often that Fallout 4 is bad. I... okay i love Fallout 3 then New Vegas and then Fallout 4. But all of them are amazing.

It's not, it's an action RPG that's gutted most of the core mechanics that made the game loveable just to appeal to a wider audience.

Just what I like about Skyrim too

It's great if you ignore that there is little choice. My only issue is the combat is annoying because it's so frequent and the enemies are damage sponges. Even the nukes feel so dam weak compared to new vegas. Thank god for the settlement system and the power armor to give traditional combat a break.
