Why does OPB and 'Oregon Field Guide' produce more YT content about Washington than Oregon?

it looked like some of the underwater shots showed swarms of polychaete epitokes. Were they, or some other marine organism attracted to the camera lights. Epitoky is fascinating in it's own right.

The San Juan Islands is somewhere people need to visit. I saw wild orcas there and the islands are very beautiful!!

I had the pleasure of witnessing this while sailing from NY to Bermuda aboard a 27' boat. I was mesmerized watching a trail of blue sparks bounce off of the rudder. It was incredible. Hours later, a storm began to build causing beautiful breaking waves that would illuminate blue. One particularly big wave splashed up on me and for a couple seconds, I was glowing blue! Unforgettable experience.

Paddling with lightning in the distance…. Not a good idea.

when is the best season to see this happening? Do i have to catch a bloom, or are "standard" concentrations enough to see it?

Always delightful to hear a scientist describe their field of study.

Camping on an island in Johnstone Strait near the northern end of Vancouver Island in 1998, the shoreline was bioluminescent one night. Waves gently rolling in were shimmering blue green, and wading into the water made the creatures luminesce around my feet. Blew my mind.
