Spray bottle of water into throttle body at idle cleans the valves. Spray until you hear the idle drop & stop. Do this over & over. Proven to work, the water turns to steam which cleans the intake.

ОтветитьBlasting grit into the ports??? Just NO. There will always be some left behind to drop into the cylinder, get in other places. Just pour in a bottle of injector cleaner once in a while, keeps everything cleaner.

- Which pressure in PSI was your compressor set ?
- How many minutes did you blast per intake port? (If I assume my intakes are as dirty as yours, I should blast not less than X (?) min…)

That's exactly why this technique was invented, because it won't hurt if it accidentally stays in there the nutshell. It will burn in moments.

So I need to take half the engine apart to do this. I will start cleaning process after I take Community College class how to take engine apart. Then I will spend days doing the cleaning.

ОтветитьIn the past I drilled small holes in the intake manifold and inserted plastic lines to a water and alcohol 50/50 mixture in a gallon bottle and just drive normally. The vacuum would pull in the mixture cleaning the valves. Seal the plastic lines when finished. Did this once a month. Seemed to work well as the engine ran just fine.

ОтветитьI've been wanting to do this for a while on my Ford Transit. But wasn't sure of the effect, nor the difficulty level. I also wasn't sure how much of a difference it would make.
You answered a lot of those questions for me. This is definitely the best way to deal with the EGR system.

ОтветитьAfter performing this procedure it is good idea to install an oil catch can, then you may not need to do this procedure for many tens of thousands of KM'S if at all.
ОтветитьGreat vid, I have the same gun and setup (you can get a long straight extension from spray gun kits that fit a 1/4" connector). I always tape up the ports I have done and the open valve port, this stops any random shell blow out getting into them. Baking soda also works, it's cheaper but not as good as the walnut shell.

ОтветитьCan this technique cause issues with valve sleeve and valve stems’ errosion due to the micro sand particles being trapped in the gap after this process and then acting as abrasive material? Valve seals are also a concern.

ОтветитьHa ha. If you exercise your engine correctly ie, full range acceleration and long drives this problem will not happen. Never had this problem in over 60 years as a mechanic.
