Hello I'm Joan and this book is called Unscripted by James B Stewart and Rachel Abrams. It’s the story of Sumner Redstone who was the founder and owner of Paramount Global which was the business which owned and operated CBS, Viacom, and Simon and Schuster Publishers. And this book is about the struggle for control of that empire. Increasingly as he aged, he was 97 when he died in 2020, Redstone became distracted by a series of very odd relationships with a number of women, some serious lapses of judgement, and there began a battle to take control of the firm. His daughter Shari was seen as the heir apparent but the guy who ran CBS, a man called Lester Moonves, had some other ideas and he planned a coup and was doing quite well until he got sidelined by Me Too allegations. This is a story about egos which are allowed to run absolutely rampant, about where Hollywood meets business. It’s been called the book version of the TV series Succession. And if like me you loved that series you will love this book.
