Is a Celebration of Families Week – led and directed by members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community and supporting services. The vision of the festival is to use our cultural strengths to connect all people with a sense of belonging to place (Country), community and family – an experience of Kinship. Kinship encapsulates culture, belonging, responsibility, participation and connection to land, and people. Non-Indigenous service providers and participants are invited into this space and onto the Kinship committee through meaningful participation and two-way learning. This year – as our communities are recovering and rebuilding after the devastation of the Floods The Kinship Festival had a special role to play in providing much needed healing for all peoples, through our cultural connections and ceremonies that have kept us strong for thousands and thousands of years.
