Do you have ongoing liver issues? Maybe you're noticing that you have elevated levels of liver enzymes. In this video, we're going to look at high liver enzyme causes that you may not have considered. We're going to look at some things in the environment that could be toxic to your body and your liver. Some digestive issues that can cause high liver enzymes, and some other things surrounding high liver enzyme causes that you should consider. in this video, we're going to look at some of the causes of high liver enzymes that you may not have considered.
Of course, there are the obvious causes of high liver enzymes, such as viral hepatitis A, B, or C, alcohol consumption, and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) or non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Some medications, such as statins and Tylenol, and even other viral infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and acute viral infections, can also raise liver enzymes. These are all some of the more well-known or common causes of high liver enzymes. Even gallbladder issues, such as gallstones, can cause high liver enzymes. But what do you do when these causes have been ruled out? Are there perhaps other hidden or lesser-known causes of elevated liver enzymes?
Yes, there definitely are, and that's what we're gonna look at in this video. And of course, there are individual variations in our liver processes, these toxins. And of course, we do live in a more toxic ridden world from pesticides, heavy metals, and other pollutants.

Yes, there definitely are, and that's what we're going to look at in this video. And of course, there are individual variations in our liver processes and how we handle toxins. And of course, we do live in a more toxic-ridden world from pesticides, heavy metals, and other pollutants. All of these things can overburden our bodies, so let's look at a couple of the lesser-known causes of high liver enzymes.

The first cause we want to look at is mycotoxins. Mycotoxins are toxins produced by mold. They can circulate in our body when we are exposed to mold, and they can be one of the reasons why high liver enzymes are present. Sometimes people don't think about this, but it is especially going to occur in people who have an acute exposure or current exposure to mold. So it could be going on for years actually, and you just don't know it. Of course, you're going to have other symptoms too, in most cases, but mold toxicity and mycotoxins are definitely problematic for our bodies. They can be really toxic and cause high liver enzymes.

Usually, it's going to occur in people who live in damp climates, but it can even occur in places like Arizona when there is ongoing water damage that isn't taken care of. Those mycotoxins can just be circulating in your house or in the environment, causing lots of problems, too, not only your liver, but other parts of your body as well.

Heavy metals like arsenic, lead, mercury, and other heavy metals are also going to be common causes of high liver enzymes. They can be inhaled, absorbed through the skin, or ingested. People who are actively mining are more likely to be exposed to heavy metals, but even people who have well water or live in areas with lead pipes in the water supply can be exposed. If you do have well water or know of lead pipes that are feeding your water supply, it's important to get your water checked for contamination.Pesticides and insecticides are another possible cause of high liver enzymes. It is more common in people who actively use these chemicals and sprays on a regular basis, perhaps as part of their job. It could also be an acute exposure, such as when you are doing a project and suddenly have high liver enzymes.

Just like with any toxin in any part of our bodies, there is individual variation in how our bodies make the enzymes that break down and eliminate these toxins. In the case of pesticides and insecticides, there is a particular genetic alteration called PON1. If you have a homozygous alteration in specific parts of this gene, you are more susceptible to having problems eliminating these products, which can lead to high liver enzymes when you have both high exposure and poor elimination.

Dysbiosis in your digestive tract refers to an imbalance between the good and bad bacteria that can cause problems. This can be another cause of high liver enzymes that you may not have considered. Examples of dysbiosis include small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and small intestinal fungal overgrowth (SIFO).
