I've Got a Dream – Syria for the Palestinians
Since the Roman Period, the entire area of Syria, Jordan and Lebanon has been a single region called Syria-Palestine. During the Umayyad and Mamluk periods the area was called Greater Syria – A-Sham. It was the Christian powers that partitioned the area after the First World War.
In the northern part, Syria and Lebanon were founded, and in the southern part Jordan and Israel were founded. A small section remained that was named the West Bank.
Our soil, our homeland, is not the small area between Jenin and Jericho, between Kfar Saba and the Jordan. Our homeland is large and extensive.
In our state, Syria-Palestine, there is no room for a large Christian minority and there is no room for a large Jewish minority. An Alawite state should likewise be established separately in the north, under the jurisdiction of the Assad family. By such means we will preserve the character of our state as a Sunni nation.
Our land, Syria, has turned into a battlefield. Millions have been uprooted to other countries, near and far. Millions have abandoned their homes and more than half-a-million residents have been murdered. Syria today is an artificial country. An Alawite minority rules by force over the Sunni majority.
This country, wrought with destruction, is our opportunity. There we can fulfill our national aspirations.
We will partition the small West Bank territory between our own settlement blocs and theirs. Palestinian residents who will remain in the West Bank will elect and be elected to the parliament in Damascus or the parliament in Amman, Jordan.
Al-Quds shall remain a city holy to us and to our children.
Al-Quds was never the capital of an Arab kingdom during the Moslem Period and there is no need for the holy city to become the capital.
Just as the Jews' Holocaust was a catalyst towards fulfilling their dream, the holocaust of our Syrian brethren and our own holocaust can serve as catalysts towards fulfilling the dream of Syria-Palestine – Greater Syria within the borders of Syria.
If we want, the dream will be fulfilled. If not in five years, then it will be fulfilled in fifty years.
If we will it, it is no dream.
