The ending here makes me think... And maybe this could be answered in out of the trenches... WWI is depressing. For Indy and company, do you find yourselves having to take breaks away from sifting through the pictures of dead bodies and stories of unimaginable slaughter? Is there a point doing the show you have to just take a break and find something to distract you from the carnage?
Thank you for the work you do. It's important we not forget.
Maybe it's not as noticible watching the videos as they come out, but watching them back to back as I catch up, the constant harping on about 'War Bad!' is really heavy handedly beating a dead horse. Like you feel your audiance needs to be constantly reminded that war isn't an action movie. It's rather annoying, and kind of insulting, to the point that I often stop watching your videos for months despite their otherwise high quality.
Yes, war is horrific, we can see that, you don't need to constantly spell it out.
I have a family heirloom of an Eclipse Co. 12 gauge double barreled shotgun, according to the internet, it's over a hundred years old, and Eclipse Co. is Belgian, but we haven't had it appraised. Also a Confederate Cavalry sword... Texas... yay.
Ответитьthe great war the tiny little yellow spot behind indy on the map between spain and france what country is it
ОтветитьYeah; let's just be glad that Greece learned how to handle its economy. Hmm? Well that's unfortunate.
ОтветитьMy Anconna don't want none unless you got guns hun
ОтветитьGreat ending. Thank you guys for the amazing work.
ОтветитьGorringe rhymes with orange
ОтветитьBravo for calling out the bullsh&t about "Romantic" aviators and Zeppelins!
Ответитьnice stuff
ОтветитьSo Greece fighting bankruptcy is its culture?
ОтветитьWell said conclusion.
ОтветитьFew details given for Kut war which was a victory of Ottoman Empire over UK, it is not only starvation...
Ответитьlisten, Indy, pal
you're 89 episodes too late to be apologizing for being interested in zeppelins despite them being "deadly"
Greeks missplayed their cards realy bad this war, they should've not let british and french troops on their soil. I still don't get it why the allies signed their stupid pact to not sign individual peace with germany,austro-hungary. French and GB could've easily negotiated peace by christmas 1914 and letting germany deal with the russians which would not realy result in anything beneficial to austro-hungary,germany in the long term, and it would've def saved serbia as there was agreement between austrian and hungary to not anex serbian territories.
ОтветитьInteresting to learn there were Australian troops at Salonika.
ОтветитьIt's so tilting to my conception of those north of the wall to come across a US citizen who is not an advocate of war as a political solution.
I feel Indi's clear social values and apparent pacifism really help make this the excellent documentary series it is. Too often military history is presented by folk excited by the idea of conflict.
I think I need to Patreon up..
The emotion you put into these videos is what makes them so amazing. Someone can go on and on about history, but when someone actually cares, actually has emotion while telling the horrific stories of such a bloody war...it just really makes it what it is.
ОтветитьI disagree with what you said at the end. Romanticism is not about ethics and your correlation is merely a bias.
Still enjoying the series. just after reading the comments and not seeing any mention of this I figured I'd point it out.
Wouldn't many of the German infantry be using the stahlhelm instead of the pickelhaube at this point?
ОтветитьCan these videos be purchased and if so how much would they cost?
ОтветитьI have the utmost respect for this show. Displays the history and reveals the truth;
There's nothing glamorous about modern war... There's no honor to be gained there, it's just men being thrown against each other, those lucky enough to survive, are just that, lucky. Modern warfare does away with skill in warfare, if you didn't get shot it's just because the gun wasn't aimed at you..
But unfortunately right now because of the massive technological superiority of our army against our enemies, war is being glamourised again (just like it was before ww1 and for the same reason)
Concerning the man vying for an independent Lebanon. Did you mean Maronite? That’s the dominant Christian group in Lebanon.
ОтветитьThe style's a bit preachy. War's never been gallany or chivalrous. Not a hundred years ago, not today, not in the middle ages. Although the scale and technological advances in methods of killing in WW1 were something terrrible and new, check any major war, contemporary or in the past, and you find the sale ugliness. Take 30 Years' War, for instance. That was an Early Modern period war and and proportionally to population and economy of the era as devastating as WW1.
ОтветитьCan you make a video that talks about some of the advances in science and medicine discovered during the war?
ОтветитьEdinbro... Edinbro?
EDINBURGH EDIN-BRUH MY DUDE!
So... has Greece just been perpetually bankrupt since the start of the 20th Century?
ОтветитьOne of the greatest intros ever
ОтветитьFinally!!!! Someone mentions Rene Fonck!!!! I wrote my term paper on him. The guy was a supreme ace. Easily the best of WW1.
ОтветитьZepplins. I wonder "What If" they had stayed viable up till World War II. Would history be any different. Who knows. Nice job.
ОтветитьThank you so very much for not glorifying war and reminding everyone that at the end without all the false glare it is just the act of organized murder
Ответить"This caused huge anti-German sentiment"
How many time shave I heard this phrase?
"This is Modern Warfare" in 1916 ...Death and no value of life due in part to Racism that to them was normal...... Im glad i live now in 2020 ..... I wonder how people in 3020 judge us destroying the environment?
ОтветитьI especially enjoy the anti-war vibe and the musical ending
ОтветитьHi
ОтветитьNice salty finish, loved it!
ОтветитьSorry but murder is a mafia killing a merchant because they don’t pay extortion money. A pilot in the service of a country is not a murderer. Is the 1970s all over again spitting on the “baby killing” soldiers?
ОтветитьI can’t begin to imagine the frustration and disappointment that the troops of the Kut relief force must’ve been feeling. Your comrades, countrymen, have been under siege since December, running out of food, ammunition, and options. Meanwhile, you don’t have much time, if any, to plan your offensive, since the spring flooding gets worse each passing day, and your lines of communication are so overstretched you can’t be reinforced if something goes wrong. Then the Ottomans lure your forces into eyesight of Kut, only to spring the trap, and casualties are too high to continue the advance. The so close turning into the so far, within eyesight of Kut, might I add, must’ve been soul-crushing.
Ответить“The Greek budget had expenditures twice that of it revenue…..”
Wait, what year is it?
I’m a little late to this but fun fact from a airplane mechanic student. We were informed that the dope used on the fabric for those planes was so flammable that if your plane caught fire in the air you would likely burn to death before you hit the ground.

ОтветитьI do have to say indy does some staring word at the end of each episode. The truth of the first world war. The truth of wars really.
ОтветитьWell said.
ОтветитьI really appreciate the hardline anti war message in this channel.
ОтветитьYusuf al-Hani was Maronite, not Mennonite.
