Listening to this song after Chapter 4, the song and the lyrics have highlighted a lot more about the lore.

SPOILER WARNING IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN CHAPTER 4 YET

"We don't play anymore, is it just because we're older?"

This line not only pertains to the toys "getting old", or how people are "getting old and don't play with toys anymore".

But it mostly pertains the children's souls trapped inside the toys. As revealed in Chapter 4, in the Safe Haven, the Mini Critters' voices can be heard; voices that are oddly adult voices. Meaning that the children (after being turned into toys) may be trapped inside the toys, but that doesn't prevent them from aging.

Plus, they are done playing around after what the Playtime Co. employees have put them through—and that opens The Hour of Joy.

"Where did all the love go? (Oh-oh)
We rolled it up and tossed it"

Normally, when we create something, we'd pour our heart and soul into it to give it meaning. Hence, the love we give. In Playtime Co., however, the employees only pour out dark intentions when creating the experiments. They "rolled up the love and tossed it away".

If there's no love or "proper reason" to create something, it's considered nonsense.

Not like I was surviving off it"

I think this a play on the question: "Was it worth the trouble?".

The reason I say this is because as time goes by and as Playtime Co. employees started making more experiments, they slowly start to care less about innocent lives, and even THEIR lives, because the experiments they made have the ability to kill them and others.

Like for instance, The Hour of Joy, when both guilty and innocent lives were taken. And Doey (as Kevin) killed Jack's parents. An expectation the scientists have about Doey's behavior.

It's probably possible that Jack's parents might not have been Doey's first victims...

You can just ask the scientists: "Was it worth the trouble?", or even "Was it worth your lives?".

If I had a nickel for every time they'd confirm that creating experiments that can potentially kill them IS worth their lives, I'd be rich. 😂
