Hitler was not this old and decrepit in real life. No one would have fought to the last for such a man that looked like he was on the way out any day. Look at genuine pictures of him from 1945.

And then he died third of August 1962 in Argentinia.

Supposedly the SS carried out his orders. They had 30 or so hours to carry it out before the Russians arrived. The SS ran out of gas to completely cremate the bodies but they buried the remains of Hitler and Eva in a common grave somewhere nearby in Berlin. They then found other bodies that looked similar and put them in the hole and burned them somewhat to make it seem like they were Hitler and Eva. Remember Berlin is a warzone then there were bodies EVERYWHERE. The Russians still have fragments from these bodies but won't release them for DNA testing because they know they are not really Hitler and Eva.

I know I am not saying anything that hasn't already been said, but I am in awe of the job Bruno Ganz did of his portrayal. Instead of a one-dimensional monster, he portrayed Hitler as a broken man caving under the weight of failure and the collapse of his empire. Not saying this absolves the real-life AH in any way, but at least we can see how utterly and hopelessly devastated he was by the end. RIP Bruno Ganz

Thanks to semantics, forbidding surrender doesn't sound as bad as it really is, because it's delivered in the negative, he's telling them NOT to do something, but really, you could just replace "I forbid you to surrender" with "I order you to die".
