On the north shore of Oahu is a litle known spot near Turtle Bay, the Opana radar site, where its rudumentary radar first detected the pending Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor the morning of December 7, 1941. Unfortunately, the radar operators were told, not to worry about it. The duty officer thought they were American planes. The radar team went to breakfast and America was attacked. Its impossible to know what would have happened if the warning had been heeded but the value of radar had been proven.
