Jay Smith made a lot of sense. I would only add to what he said when talking about dealing with these perennial 11-1 teams with the easy schedules - in the SEC some of the top teams in the Conference had marshmallow creampuffs scheduled toward the end of the season, while other teams that are maybe considered to be lower on the ladder did not play that ugly game. Its one thing to play teams from outside the SEC, but there are a whole lot of teams in Big 10 and other conference/leagues that would still be meaningful games. If the schedules are set a couple years in advance, a team might schedule Wisconsin or Iowa or Minnesota (aware that I stuck to the five-state area), and then find out they had top-ranked teams that year. Or maybe the opposite. But at least they wouldn't be scheduling with meaningless automatic Wins.

You get it right when it is settled by the players and the teams records. Like almost every other sport in the world. You would have to completely restructure conferences by geography which will never happen. Clowns behind doors with opinions is a joke that will never die. The NFL has it right and so does Div II and Div III football. Records... period

This is what CFP, and conferences should do, the 2 middle teams competing for a spot should go to the conference championships, IN OTHER WORDS, like this year, THE top 3 teams like Texas, Ga, Tn, should have been automatically IN, PUT BAMA AND SOUTH CAROLINA in Atlanta, whoever wins goes in as a outside birth team.. like the NFL. Make all conference championship games in every conference a playoff birth game instead of championships.
