Naxxramas definitely ranks up there but IMO Ulduar is the best raid. Completely laid the groundwork for hardmode/heroic/mythic + had a ton of fantastic and difficult fights.

This may be cliché to say because its probably been said by countless players in the past, and I know that there is a significant difference between the two, but here I go: I played during vanilla but I came to the game very late. I was level 51 when TBC released but I remember seeing videos about Naxxramas and it was my WoW dream to be able to experience that raid. I knew from reading and watching any video I could find that I would never get to experience the raid. (or the OG version of it at least) After playing TBC as a filthy casual I moved into WotLK with a different mindset because it was known that a remake of Naxx was gonna be the opening raid. With Wrath being my period of playing the game seriously, I'm thankful to have at least experienced that raid even it's a tamer version of the original raid. It kept most of the model skins alive (even tho they have have been re-colored) and obtaining Undying and Immortal titles was a lot of fun to work towards back then. It may not have been THE original Naxx but it was still a Naxx that I was happy to be apart of.

As someone who was part of world 7th kill on KT, I have to say that i completely agree with your assessment here. Despite enormous server-issues (10 second freeze on Thaddius, anyone?) Naxx truly was an unforgettable experience. Trying to figure out how to handle the different mechanics, without any previous knowledge was such an interesting challenge, which unfortunately won't be part of the Classic version.

Uld and ICC way better in my opinion but fantastic raid non the less!

The best raids are HANDS DOWN these 2 :

Ulduar and Karazhan.

Ulduar for its amazing design, superb boss fights and crazy challenges.

Karazhan because of its rich lore history with Medivh.

Not a single raid before, or after these 2 brought as much as an unique vibe and feel that these miracle's of game design did.

Such a great fucking video, was captivated start to end.

And just as far as enjoying raids Ulduar was better. Maybe icecrown and black temple too. Love the illidan and arthas fights especially the hard mode arthas before nerfs or buffs.

Wrong. Naxx isn’t that hard. Plenty of mythic raids have been way harder since then. Naxx is legendary not bc of difficultly but bc of its timing and time investment. Theoretically as long as you have enough time and money and are a decent enough raider you will beat naxx in wow classic.

Naxx was hard in vanilla bc most of us were really bad back then. 15 years later most of us are a lot better now. The time investment is the biggest issue... getting the gear, the attunements, and the gold for the consumables. The small number of guilds clearing is mostly bc of tbc release date. If wow classic just stays around for years instead of a hundred guilds clearing it it will be thousands or tens of thousands of guilds, maybe even puggable.

The fact that the world first ony and MC had plenty of guild members who weren’t even geared or even Lv 60 yet shows just how easy vanilla really is. And just how bad the players were back then still figuring everything out from scrap.

Naxx is legendary not for its pure difficulty, but for its investment. The hardest thing about it will probably be getting the 40 geared players, all attuned and have pots, and get the tanks needed for 4 horsemen.

The Plagueheart set was iconic. As an Human Mage I remember those warlock shoulders so vividly.. Because if I saw them, I was usually dead.

I can't wait to see the guilds that stick with Classic to claim the 2nd world first of Kel'thuzad with the renewed determination and experience of modern players. I hope Blizzard can learn from how modern players interact with the epitome of WoW's raiding history.

My fondest memories are of BWL. It pobly has a lot to do with the fact that I was the first Horde hunter on my server to get the Dragon Stalker's bp and the second to get the full set. I remember going in to AV and eventually alliance would see me and run the other way. Good times. But Naxx was awesome as well. I remember running this place before they nerfed it and it was insane. Once it was balanced my guild was the first horde guild to finish it on my server.

As you stated that less than 1% of the population got to experience Naxx. So how would anybody know or agree that is The Greatest Raid in the history of WoW when so few experienced it?

I got attuned & poked my head up into Naxx saw Death Knights for the first time but never got to raid it before it moved :(

i never raided classic but i get the sense AQ 40 was a great balance between difficulty creative boss design and immersion. I only did naxx in wotlk and that was cool im sure nothing compared to the OG naxx. My personal favorite is probably ulduar but black temple karazhan and zul aman are runner ups

Naxx was in my opinion where the creative and armor/weapon skins team hit their peak. From there, the gear sets etc. never achieved that point and also the encounters got more mechanics but not in a better way, just different.
