Hi Gabi, I, myself, as a motor journey enjoyer here in China, highly recommend you to take a motor journey to Xinjiang. As you are already in Xi'an which borders with Xinjiang, you can get there within 1 day. Xinjiang is one of the most famous motor journey destinations in China and I think it's definately an underrated motor journey route around the world. It's easy to search for roadbooks of Xinjiang due to its high popularity in China. Hope you enjoy the journey and be safe out there!

As Chinese I do think many of our public service and administrative systems are not that easy for foreigners to navigate, both in terms of institutional design and staff proficiency, because China, by and large, is not a highly internationalized country—considering its own size and the number of foreign visitors. Generally staff in border cities and major metropolitan areas tend to have more experience. But you managed it BRAVISSIMO!

Hello Gabi, I noticed you've been visiting mostly big cities. Have you considered exploring some natural landscapes? For example, when you were in Chengdu, you could have visited Jiuzhaigou in western Sichuan. It has colorful waters that are absolutely stunning, and it's a place few foreigners know about. There's also the snow-capped mountains in Lijiang, and the deserts and caves in Dunhuang. If you prefer cultural scenery, I think the gardens in Suzhou and Beijing are quite nice.
