ОтветитьIt’s hard to get into this movie when the students don’t even sound like NYkers but I’m going to watch it for the young actor Brandon Mychal Smith (I had to look up his name) but from the trailer I can tell he is a great actor (at such a young age too).

My late aunt was a teacher like him.
She taught first grade, and the other teachers laughed at her methods, until the teacher training experts started training teachers to use her methods.
Every year, her class would ace the state exams, and every year, they'd RETEST her class, because they were convinced that they had cheated.
She worked in a school district that had a rule: Students who had been identified as special needs and/or troubled (in kindergarten) would be spread out amongst the (several) first grade teachers, so that nobody was ever overwhelmed by having too many students with too many needs. Yeah, once she came to town, the school kept the rule on the books, but somehow, every troubled/special needs student in the entire first grade wound up in her classroom.
They would keep the classes together, so if you were in Classroom A for first grade, you'd have the exact same classmates in second grade's Classroom A, and the same in third, fourth, fifth, and sixth, right up to junior high. Which meant that the second grade teacher who inherited my aunt's class got the whole lot of them, and then they'd wind up spreading out those students who still had special needs or troubled. But that same teacher once came up to my aunt, and said, "I don't have to do a thing this year. You done learned 'em all they need to know." Yes, that is a direct quote, as my aunt told me. "You done learned 'em." I shuddered when I heard it.
And she dealt with AWFUL administration and AWFUL parents. I lived with her for one month, and she told me all kinds of stories, particularly on the days when she came home, and cried about the awful thing that happened THAT DAY. Or sometimes, the joyful thing.
For example, the one that stood out the most: The little girl who started first grade, without having attended kindergarten at all, because kindergarten was optional, but first grade was mandatory. If you didn't enroll your child in school, you had to officially declare you were homeschooling, and there were hoops and paperwork, and her parents DID NOT WANT TO DO THAT. See, they had basically kept the child in a closet and tossed food at her a few times a day. She entered first grade without even knowing how to SPEAK. Not, "Oh, she's mentally slow," or "She has a speech impediment." Nope. Her parents LITERALLY NEVER TAUGHT HER HOW TO SPEAK. They viewed school as free babysitting, and they REALLY loved the whole "Free school lunch" thing, because now, they didn't have to feed her. She got to eat at school. When she was sick as a dog, and could barely breathe, they sent her to school. My aunt INSISTED that they take her home and take care of her, to which her father replied, "Well, that means I'll have to put on my pants." ABOUT HIS OWN CHILD!!! Honestly, it's a wonder CPS did not remove her from their custody, but they lived in one of those areas were CPS is just overloaded, because of generational poverty, and generations of teen pregnancy and many a young man of fifteen would brag about how many "checks" he had, with how many baby mamas. They literally called their babies "checks," because each baby would be granted welfare checks from the government to pay for food and diapers and such, and every month, these boys would go to their various baby mamas and force them to hand the money over to them. It was a racket and plenty of the youths in town were in on it. They were raised not to care about their own children, because nobody cared about them, when they were children. Nobody but people like my aunt.
When that little girl said her first word, TO MY AUNT, at school, my aunt was so happy, she literally danced through the hallways, cheering. The whole school knew that the little girl had said, "Hello," to my aunt.
But a first grade teacher changing lives can only do so much, right? They need someone to care for them EVERY year. Or, at least every OTHER year, so that they can keep up with their learning. After all, contrary to what SOME PEOPLE believe, a first grade education is NOT, "all they need to know."
However, they never forgot how much she loved them. Personally, I can't even remember my first grade teacher. I barely remember first grade, at all. But ALL of her students remembered her. They'd see her in the grocery store, where they were shopping or working, AS ADULTS, and they would drop everything to come and greet her! They would send her wedding invitations, and keep in touch with her through letters and phone calls. Until the day she died!
She was a loving woman, and she was well-loved. And her idiot of a husband who cheated on her and abused her and dumped her was the one who missed out the most. He had a precious jewel and threw it away for some cut glass. But the children reaped the benefits, because she was able to pour even more of her heart into teaching them.
She was one of those teachers who are CALLED to the profession, and it truly was a vocation for her.
There are several movies like this, about that one special teacher who truly touches the lives of their students. It may seem that they are common, because there are several movies. But, such teachers are actually quite rare. If you look at all the movies about great teachers, and compare them to the number of actual teachers just in this country, you'll see, Ron Clark and others like him are, at least, one in a hundred thousand.
Amazing movie❤❤❤❤❤❤
