The HORRIBLE AI Crystal Mug Scam

What's worst about this is that making an actual gemstone lookalike would be extremely easy with some translucent resin and the cheapest silicone mould you can find.

I can't imagine being dumb enough to fall for this.

Even if these were real, crystals get those pretty colors from minerals and chemical compounds, a lot of which can be deadly on their own or react with the gastric acid and turn into deadly chemicals. Amethyst, quartz and citrine can give you silicosis if you inhale their dust for long periods of time. Malachite is toxic because of its copper content, serpentine snd tiger’s eye contain asbestos, cinnabar has mercury in it…

The commercials did say resin.

The living puppy robots are another scam. They show real dogs in the ad very few shots of their robots. Robot cats. What’s next? AI robot human babies? Showing real babies?

the (real) mug in the third vid looks SO much like 'geodes' from a cheap dino ride i've been on its insane (with the difference that i'd riot if someone tried to sell me a mug like that as real)

Not only are they fake as shit, but also the end result is FUGLY. Not that I'd want to get scammed like this, but if they were at least somewhat pretty I could still use them, but god these are painful to look at

I work at a goodwill, a few months ago we got five of these donated at once. I don’t know if my coworkers knew about them but I instantly recognized them and kept giggling to myself every time I walked by the shelf they were on. They were never bought btw.

They do actually exist, but they cost over $100
The scammers either steal real photos from people who sold or sell real crystal mugs, or it's ai generated from public photos online based on the real ones.

I have to check what my mother watches on Instagram (she doesn't have FaceBook) because she has been fooled by these AI stuff. She hasn't bought anything, thankfully, but she has sent me things she wants me to make (I crochet), and I have to be like "Mom. That's an AI image. That's humanly impossible to make."

With the way ads and online shopping is going in general I just don't buy online anymore unless forced to. AI has encouraged me to shop local so... yay?

Well you can buy real amethyst pieces and glue them with resin to a stainless mug. But in general it looks bulky and bad to clean and very heavy. I saw resin stone art coffee machines by AI these looked beautiful it could be nice if it's functional and we'll done maybe in some years. But you could 3d prind a crystal shape sleeve for a mug.

Hot acidic beverage poured into cast resin gives me complex toxic chemical nightmares.

Now someone absolutely COULD do something with an agatized petrified wood limb cast. Assuming you got a chunk with no flaws that would cause it to crack when hot liquid is poured in. And that you lucked out with none of the minerals in the colors being orpiment/realgar (arsenic) or cinnabar (mercury, a lovely red color) or galena (lead.)

I'm baffled anybody would think it is real. I've seen a few of these plastic crystal mugs at the thrift store, and they look like junk. I would see the AI ads for them on Pinterest and report them as a scam, but Pinterest doesn't care because they want that advertising money.

People are stupid.

Only thing I can think of seeing the render (since it's AI it would be wrong to call them "pictures") of these mugs is how uncomfortable it would be to put your lips on that.
