In 1970, a photographer named Galella sued Onassis and three Secret Service agents for false arrest and malicious prosecution. Onassis filed a counterclaim, and the US Government intervened in the case. The plaintiff engaged in harassing behavior towards Onassis, causing her discomfort and fear. The court found that the plaintiff's behavior was wrongful and constituted assault, battery, harassment, and tortious invasion of privacy. The court also found that the defendant violated the plaintiff's right to privacy. The plaintiff failed to request a jury trial before the mandatory date, and their late request was struck as worthless. The trial lasted from February 16 to March 23, 1972.
