this video is great. I've found that few people are going into this kind of detail while teaching the grips in videos. Thanks.
Ответитьvery complete explanation about this grip. great video, thx for sharing man (y)
ОтветитьAbsolutely perfect ! Thank you !
ОтветитьMan i was playing that grip for 3 years now and i didn`t know i was using American grip !!! Thanks though !
ОтветитьI stumbled across this trying French grip and can do 150BPM but when I try 160 it basically collapses how long do you reckon it should take to develop? Also when I do this I didn't feel any burn
ОтветитьGreat video dude!
ОтветитьOh my gosh thank you so much for doing this video!!!
ОтветитьSo you can get the same speed with the American grip you would get with the french grip using the fingers???? Or with the french grip is easier??? Why you need to know the two grips?? Please answer the two questions, And Sorry for my english, im brazilian
ОтветитьThank you, this is a very accurate explanation of American grip!
One note though: it is both possible to use wrist in French grip (with wrist rotation) and use fingers in German grip (by using middle finger fulcrum). In both cases it is possible to perfectly align wrist movement with finger movement.
Regardless, this doesn't take anything away from your excellent explanation of American grip.
Great vid and discussion here. Long time drummer here. Can you explain how these different variations are used in a song. Shifting from one to another depending on tempo or part yer playing? Thx. I’m starting over w technique cuz mine is garbage.
ОтветитьHi. I'm just starting out on the drums, and I've mostly been on my practice pad. I've noticed drum sticks pairs have their own note, a high and low. Do I want to try to consistently make these notes ring out? Or are these notes to be muted?
I like your chanel BTW. Excellent descriptions and breakdowns on every vid. 🖒
This was a really helpful video! I.e. for explaining finger technique with American grip etc. Interesting that the fingers don't stay on the stick the whole time (which is recommended with the traditional grip)
ОтветитьThxx a lot! 😍 oh i didnt know that it is called American Grip🙈thanks man, u helped a lot❤
ОтветитьYour elbows should have been beside your body. No?
Ответитьcool
ОтветитьWhen using the American Grip do you keep the stick pinched between your thumb and the uppermost joint in your index finger? Or your thumb and the middle joint in yr index finger? It's hard for me to tell in the video...
ОтветитьMy god for so long I've been shamed into thinking I shouldn't use my pointer finger first knuckle as a fulcrum point for this technique but everywhere else feels way off and not right. Kinds angry I've waisted so much time buying into it. Thanks for the video
ОтветитьYou explain everything so clearly. Thanks
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьI've been using American grip without realising it.
ОтветитьDid we really need a name for a grip half way in between "German" and "French" grip? 2 grips that didn't need a name in the first place. When I play on my snare Im using German grip. When I play on my ride cymbal or to the side I use French grip. For decades I never knew they had a name. Pointless names are no substitute for practice.
ОтветитьTrying to get this down, I mostly play french grip and I get a lot of shock in the wrist of my left hand(my non-dominate hand)
ОтветитьAmerican grip the best.
ОтветитьDoes someone know the history behind the names "american", "french" and "german" grip? I suppose they were adopted in those countries (I suppose as well that they suppose America means USA) but I do not know the chronological line with detail.
ОтветитьAh. ..i thought I use German Grip.
But my Tech is American Grip.
Btw what about for Italian Grip?
Is it similar with Flying Finger?
I usually play finger stroke with the first knuckle of the remain three finger in the french grip, and with the finger pad in the american grip.. Is it okay to make it with slightly different position?
ОтветитьGo Buffs!!!
ОтветитьThanks for this. I'm starting to learn drums, so this helped. 😄
ОтветитьThis is so good, thanks! I came upon this by sort of roughly figuring this out myself while trying to use fingers in german grip. A lot of teachers talk about using fingers in french grip, then they just go and do demonstrations with their hand rotated back over without explaining it... but I was realising that after a certain point of rotating around to german grip it becomes hard and inefficient to use the fingers. And conversely it becomes hard to get a solid wrist stroke with french grip because it's a sort of rotation (handshake movement) rather than a bounce (ball bouncing movement). This definitely clarifies what I was trying to figure out!
ОтветитьI watched like a ton of these videos some of them were top drummers teachin. This is the far best video on this topic and lasts 2 min only. A job well done sir!
Ответитьvery clear! thanks a lot
ОтветитьAmazing explanation, thanks!!
ОтветитьNice! For double stroke rolls, should I open or close the gap?
ОтветитьVery good ! 🎉
ОтветитьBest video out there. Covers every question, wish I had classes with u
ОтветитьI can't use my fingers wirh the American grip. Any tips?
ОтветитьThank you so much for making this excellent video. I have a question… I’ve been struggling to learn this grip for a while (just seeing this video now). Currently, when I hit snare and the stick whips back, it’s painfully hitting my outer palm just above the wrist. Do you have any idea of what I’m doing wrong?
ОтветитьThanks for this man! I swear you have the most methodical approach to drumming with no bullshit. Funny how you didnt have to say the usual, like share and subscribe and yet I did. Wish I could be your student
