I've never been to Uni myself, but the whole fact that most of it is theory based is terrible imo.
It's one reason why I'd always prefer Polytechnics or private training institutions, instead of all these wishy washy bs titles/programs that hardly even explain what you'll actually be learning.

What I liked about the Diploma I did through a local PTI(Whangarei) is that they had 3 Internationally recognized standards in their AMES courses. Those being A+, MCSA, and CISCO CCNA, or in other-words, Computer Technician, Microsoft Server Administration, and Network routing & switching. The theory went hand-in-hand with the practical that we were doing.
I think a problem with the New Zealand education system is that they fail to define proper training, hell.. even the top dude at NZQA wants International certifications banned, /facepalm...which in reality are the only proper certification standards.. in I.T. at least.
Another quick thought, I often fail to see why I would ever pay for learning how to program, Python for example: there is a plethora of quality tutorials out there, and the same goes for many other software/computer subjects. TheNewBoston does a lot of uni level tutorials and puts them into playlists, and covers a lot more languages and subjects than just Python.

Interesting to hear a realistic first-hand experience of uni, I can see both it's benefits and downfalls.

Awesome video, thanks for sharing. It's totally true when you mention the student collaboration necessary to complete the comp sci assignments at university. Nice work for getting through.

Man I did the exact same thing, I went from 18-25 in uni because I kept switching around before finally landing on computer science. Mainly out of desperation at the job prospects of my other majors haha, but luckily I ended up loving the work

I’m sorry, but I just can’t get past 2 minutes of your video with that strange music playing in the background. Most mood music is bad, but this is torture!

I am very interested in marketing and I believe that computer science nowadays is a very important field to get into!

Here is my situation at the moment and maybe you can give me input and help me take the perfect path!

I would love to work in something that allows me to use my creative mindset (visionary). Maybe jobs related to like Creative Director, Content Creator, Marketing, Consumer Behavior stuff, maybe even Graphic Design, UI/UX, Front End Dev to be able to create things people like or see, etc. I’m not really too interested in coding but I know it is a good skill to learn and have because it will take you places, but I personally am not a person that enjoys being part of the process to make things work, rather I am the one that likes to be creative with my ideas and tell them to people and kind of be in the process of the making. Basically, I don’t want to do the work of developing my ideas but I probably wouldn’t mind if I have to also do part of the work to make my ideas come to life.

EDIT: here’s some context

I am a computer science major at the moment and I am confused whether I should make the switch to MIS or idk maybe IT, because I originally wanted to become a business major. Now I’m introduced to the very technological side of computer science, I am like 50/50 with my decision now. I really was drawn to business because I feel very business minded as a person, but now I am not too sure and am really confused. I am scared that if I major in something that isn’t computer science, and instead something more business focused, I might regret my switch later on in the future.

Hey man where are you working now if you don’t mind me asking? I personally feel like I would have the passion for marketing but I also want to study computer science for the job prospects of it and how important it is to the modern living. Are you working in a job that combines both computer science and marketing?? Thanks in advance!! And HAPPY HOLIDAYYS :)
