just letting you know that type C usb is now the standard moving forward for all Usb devises being made now as they are phasing out all other usb types to end the confusion and to make it all standardized.

just bought the z690g and so far no complaints! took buildzoid's recommendations to score some well priced hynix-m xmp 5600. I one clicked it to 6400 and am seeing 102gb/s reads in aida64. now for fine tuning.

VR headsets have the USB C data cable Tethered to the DisplayPort cable so the USBC on the back of the motherboard comes in really handy

Still remember when i bought my Rog Formula XI ( z390 ) at 400$ and it was a gem for the price point / performance with EK Vram Blocks.. And now a 600$ is a low mid tier card.. Asus is just lowering they're standards at this point. Oh well let's see if they do a better job when Meteor/Luna Lake hits the fan in 2023/2024.

well, i make an order for that fluffy matx strix board cuz there is no other option for my dark rock tf, guess the logic is just fine, yeah. hope that ddr5 becomes slightly more cost effective with raptor lake.
also got the world second cheapest rx6800 from powercolor and i think it needs some minor works with plastics on my case to fit this thing.
so, this is fine, skylake is dead, finally, rx480 kinda too.

I baulked shelling out £475 for the last Z590 apex, so Asus can go screw themselves if they think I'm paying over £700. Plus as an overclocker I don't want RGB, Lan, Audio, M.2 etc etc so make a striped out OC board with that VRM and OC features and half the price or I'm going back to skt 775.

On the Maximus z690 Apex, is there any advantage of installing the M.2 in the Module that plugs into the DIMM.2 ? I am going to use the Pro Siphon, so I don't have the clearance to use it.

I'm a little late to this party, but for the past few years, my phones have been coming with type C on both ends of the cable. When I bought a Jetta two years ago to replace one that was totaled, I found it the USB ports were type C instead of type A. I've only needed the one type of cable ever since.

Solid video. Was initially leaning towards the Asus z690 - E or -F (coming from an Asus x99 deluxe), but after this video, the MSI Z690 MPG Carbon looks like the better deal - cheaper and more features - like a post code and no dumb m.2/pci lane layout!

You joked about the board being made of gold, but people do pay for aesthetics. The strix z690 white for example. And the Asus ROG white power supply. When more competitors start thinking about aesthetics, the prices may come down.

All Intel 12th gen CPUs only have 20 CPU lanes. Which is 16x for pci-e gen 5 and 4x gen 4. So basically you are limited to one graphics card and 1 m.2 drive stick. Presumably the chipset has more pci-e lanes available?

I would rather have a Z690 board with DDR4 memory because DDR5 right now is way much more expensive. No way am I paying over £300 for 16GB of memory when I can get 32GB of DDR4 for less than £150.

Why do you want tons of USB ports anyway? On mine I use maybes 1 USB port and that is the wireless thingy for my keyboard and mouse. I might have a Bluetooth USB adapter but I have never ever had need to use Bluetooth. Flash drive sticks aren't always plugged in but then if you are using a flash drive you are more likely to use a front panel one rather then fiddle at the back of the case trying to plug it in and you always try to plug it in the wrong way first(you would think flash drive makers would make it easy to know which way is right, a little arrow is all it would take). Maybes I am just different in that I don't use USB all that much except for my keyboard and mouse. And while we are at it why is PS2 ports still a thing? That belongs back in the 1990s not 2022. Having PS2 ports would be like still having ISA slots on your motherboard(the long black slots before the old PCI slots became a thing).

Don't know why the cheapest Z690 boards are nearly £200? I think the Asus ROG DDR4 A board is nearly £300 and an i5 17600K is nearly another £300. Why are they so expensive? I could spend £52 on a Celeron CPU but who spends nearly £300 on a motherboard only to put in such a budget CPU?

It's pain that lower price GIGABYTE/MSI boards have poor PCIe slots. Please put PCIe slots rather than M.2 slots, it's upward compatible. ASUS is the only option.

roflmao... more ASRock hate, despite his love for Gigabyte who bricked their Aurus Master Boards (lame bios) whereby end users are spending days trying to get a reflash to take. Despite his love for MSI, who's Unify X VRMs are causing erratic voltage spikes... and ASUS being outrageously expensive.

Yet ASROCK sucks, is horrible, never does anything right, and they're horrid lmao. Despite the Taichi being a pretty good option in the current market place.

I've been debating these boards a lot and I really don't think the Strix-E is as bad as you made it sound due to the PCI gen 5 M2 slot slowing down the PCIE gen 5 slot. I mean even if it does make the PCI slot slow down to x8 that's still PCI x16 4.0 speeds, so what's the big deal? I guess if you have a PCIE-gen 5 graphics card that actually utilizes the full bandwidth of x16 gen 5 it could matter, but then you couldn't run a gen 5 ssd in the second PCI slot without being at x8 anyway. IDK

Maybe I missed it but I don't think so - did you mention the dual Thunderbolt add-in card on the APEX? It gives you about the only thing really missing on the rear I/O panel. AND - THAT VRM!! BTW, TWIN PS/2 ports ROCK!! Apex is ONLY current MoBo on the market from the big names that has TWO PS/2 slots - a simple thing but just amazing it is the only one! Thanks for a great vid AHO.

They need to get rid of these x16 slots and just leave 1 for the gpu, sli is long dead and these slots just add to the unnecessary cost.

I would absolutely steer clear of Asus Z690 DDR5 motherboards at this point. I have a ROG Strix Z690-F Gaming WiFi and a Prime Z690-A, and both produce a WHEA error (event ID 20) by the thousands. Random system freezes and shutdowns have also occurred, but no BSODs oddly enough. I've spent days troubleshooting this issue and have swapped every component (yes, every single component - motherboards, RAM, PSUs, GPUs, SSDs... everything). The only common denominator is either one of the two Asus boards I listed. I also have a Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Master that's rock solid and hasn't produced WHEA errors like both of my Asus boards have, so it's definitely an Asus thing. Google search results have taken me to Reddit, Asus forums, and other places like Tom's Hardware forums, all with people posting a similar issue as mine. It's been suggested that it may be related to the PCIE gen 3 vs. gen 4 and/or ASPM settings, but messing with those has done nothing to fix the issue for me. There is no current fix as far as I'm aware, and new a BIOS is definitely needed to correct this issue. Bottom line, buyer beware until/unless better BIOS are released.
