Jetstar was once one of Singapore's biggest low-cost carriers. Just a few days ago, however, Qantas (parent company) had pulled the plug.

My very first time flying in a LCC was with Jetstar.

I don't think it's wise to have the same Jetstar name across different companies and markets. In this case with Jetstar Asia being shut down, consumers may be wondering about the health of the other Jetstar affiliates.

Oh no. Looks like Jetstar Asia Airways is going to cease operations soon. I feel bad for the airline. I wish I could help but there’s nothing to do about it.

Jetstar still operates internationally, especially Japan, so it's merely escaping the regulatory strangle that was being imposed by Singapore, that promotes its national carrier. Singapore's loss in the long run.

Qantas which is the parent company has such a poor history in Australia that I would not travel within their group if I can avoid it. Their service within Australia is pathetic and condescending especially among Asian travelers. Hope this is another wake up call for Qantas!!!!!

There's no downfall but an honest, zero BS and intact dignity by the company and shareholders. They could have cut quality cost, manpower or salary but they choose dignity instead, unlike other budget airline not to be name

Singapore deliberately blocked AirAsia from establishing a base or even a subsidiary there, the market was never fair or even

Their food costs more than other LCC. Their flight times are usually during the odd hours. Their planes interiors are old compared to say Scoot. Why would passengers pay more to fly with Jetstar yet get such a lousier deal? Really no love lost, just like Tigerair.

@Thamometer - 13.06.2025 05:49

You gave the example that AirAsia was able to open subsidiary branches in other countries as it's competitive advantage against Jetstar Asia. However, Jetstar group as a whole has 3 subsidiary branches operating out of three countries, Jetstar Airways (Aus/NZ), Jetstar Asia (SG), and Jetstar Japan (JP). Isn't a more equivalent comparison be comparing Jetstar Asia to only AirAsia Cambodia for example.

Also, you mentioned Scoot had the backing of it's flagship carrier SIA, and has the home team advantage in SG. Does Jetstar Asia not have the backing of its parent company Qantas? A more equivalent comparison is Qantas with Jetstar Airways operating within Aus/NZ skies.

Good riddance! Hope their Asian former employee could re-learn that they are Asians, not Australians, not Westerners. Only Westerner flew Jetstar and the crews only respected Westerners, most likely by trainings. It also means that Westerners do not travel to the region anymore. Good riddance too. If they want to come to our place, they better behave like locals. Just go to Japan only. Japanese also do not behave like everyone else in the region. They are practically made for each others.

How come Jetstar Asia does not survive among the giants of Asia? Simple! Those giants cater for Asian consumers, Asian needs. While Jetstar only cater for Westerners, for Australians. Do not blame Covid. Blame its own attitude. How many are the compared to Asians? How many Australians travel to Asia today as they try to alienate Asia and pivot to Europe and America? Do the math!

Jetstar as well former tiger airways was the earliest LCC model in Singapore LCC model will have to gone thru an evolution from LCC to hybrid model.if unableto keep up or gain suppport fm parent company to adhere to current market than it will be like tiger go thru merger or like Jetstar close shop.covid taken toll for Jetstar to follow-up with market tranch weaken them and parent company failed to move in in time to support. Moving fm T1 to T4 costing connectivity also worn out their market share too. Model evolution with marketing condition matter much here.

Sadly less competition means higher ticket prices. AirAsia are the worst for exploiting route monopoly. I'd always choose the competitors over AirAsia, when available.

Neither Scoot nor Jetstar Asia and many other supposed low cost carriers are really low cost carriers, Ryanair is the only true low cost carrier. The huge price difference in the base ticket is the big clue. For carriers like Scoot just being slightly cheaper than the full service options is enough. It’s not about making it affordable on an absolute basis but only relative to other choices to maximise revenue.

A colleague and I had bought return air tickets on Jetstar to Jakarta for a day meeting, but when we returned to the airport in the afternoon, we found that the return flight was canceled. Not a word from them, and they just did not give a damn it appears. As we had other meetings lined up on the following day we had no choice but to rush over to the SIA counter to buy two full fare one way tickets back to Singapore. That was a long time ago and I have never ever used them again. I don't even recall whether we were refunded our budget fares . Gratified to see them gone. 👎

I have always flown with Jetstar from singapore to melbourne and it was great..I think their management lack the aviation experience being too detached in australia and never even hire local knowledged managers to study the competition. They could have try to relocate to Kuala Lumpur or even Bangkok which have lower costs base and with heavy maintenance facilities too. Singapore scoot have state backing and singapore airlines backing and you cant fight that.

People forgot Airasia Group did go into debt restructure. Also SIA did start merging some of Scoot flights into its route. SIA has several flights a day to most Australian airports, so that feeds into SIA on major routes and Scoot on minor routes. Also, Scoot itself would have a flight. However, Qantas might fly once a day from Australia to Singapore if any. Honestly, don't think feed in from Qantas made a big different. Saying that moving terminals would have been the final step as there would be a lack of feed in.

Also Qantas is likely to make more money in Australia with Jetstar plane. People feeling Jetstar Australia is the only budget airline. Really, Virgin Australia operated on a budget airline structure with a basic ticket with no food or baggage, but people are willing to pay full service prices. So, there is more likely more margin in Australia for Jetstar.

Only tried flying on Jetstar Asia once in 2016, SIN-CGK flight. But on the night before departure, my flight was cancelled. Jetstar offered me two choices, either a reschedule or a refund. i took the refund, and chose to fly with another airline. But 9 years on, I never seen a cent of that so called refund they promised. Friggin scammer.

Jetstar by far the WORST airline I've ever experienced. I will avoid any Jetstar routes at any means possible. Given that I based in Singapore, I never choose to fly jetstar given many alternatives, but I've flew jetstar in Australia and Japan every year. Delays for more than 2-3 hours is something in their DNA. I could never trust Jetstar to connect me to another flight.

JETSTAR ASIA MADE A BIG MISTAKE BY NOT HAVING A TRUTLY BUDGET, IT DID NOT EXPAND LIKE GOING TO MORE THAN SOUTHEAST ASIA AND HK. IT SHOULD BE TRAVEL TO AUST DIRECT FROM SINGAPORE AND ALSO GOING TO EROUPE. IT SHOW GO BEYOUNG THAN THAT. SCOOT TOOK OVER JETSTAR AND JETSTAR LOSE HEAVLY. JETSTAR ASIA WAS A GOOD BETTER SERVICE THAN SCOOT. BUT JETSTAR ASIA DO NOT WANT TO EXPAND AND ALSO DID NOT WANT TO BUY NEW PLANE. THAT WHERE IT LOSE TO MANY OTHER BUDGET AIRLINES. IT SHOULD FIGHT TO SURVICE AND ALSO HAVE A NEW PLAN AND GOES TO AUST EUROPE AND ALSO. I THINK IF THEY FIGHT AND MAKE NEW DESTINATION.
