Mutton Bustin' - 2019 Motley Dickens Old Settlers Rodeo (Saturday)

Riding sheep is not an event sanctioned by the WRCA as are several other events at this rodeo but they are popular in most rodeos I have covered over time. What is interesting about this event is that there were more female competitors than males. I do not know if any of the Mutton Busting events have been sanctioned by the National Junior Bull Riders Association so that is something I will need to ask about for next season. #RanchRodeo #MuttonBusting #JuniorRodeo

Ten teams representing working ranches in the Roaring Springs region compete against one another in order to qualify for entry in the WRCA World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo. This was my first time to cover any of the @WRCA qualifying rodeos and it was a great excuse to return to a small and beautiful town I have known since my childhood days.

The Motley Dickens Old Settlers Reunion and Rodeo is an annual celebration for the two sparsely populated counties with a long heritage of farming and ranching history.
