Just got the 2022 Rebel 300 love the bike. I'm sure I'll be going bigger in the future, I'm very happy with my purchase.

watching this to see what you had to say about it, gen 2 of the rebel aint my favorite but it got my 85 rebel for free so i dont care what people say about it lol, its my own little lawnmower soft tail. compare the 2002 harley soft tail and the rebel it looks identical lol

I've been riding for a long time and I have a much bigger bike than this one but I still want one for an everyday commuter.
There's nothing lame about a bike that gives you 70 miles per gallon reliably and still allows you to take the freeway to work.
I'm also considering the CBR 300, Ninja 300, or an old used Buell Blast for commuter duties.

Hurray! Now I can buy a Rebel 300, ride if for 6 months and then sell it for almost full price because people in my area are psychopaths...

Soooooooooo, I am a Honda Fit driver and new Rebel 300 owner. It is pretty much my vibe. Slow, safe, comfortable. As a person who would have jumped with glee at a stock civic, it brings me much joy.

One thing nobody talks is insurance. For a new rider, insurance is a bitch if you get full coverage. The only cheap bikes 🏍 to insurance are cruiser. I will save almost half for just getting a Rebel than a Duke, CBR, MT03, husqvarna svartpilen, ninja and such. I love the husqvarna and it will be $1k cheaper that the rebel 500, but I'll be paying like $70 more month. My goal is to pay off the rebel in 3 years and then go for a Husqvarna 701 or a Triumph scrambler. By then, my insurance would have stabilize and I'll have the rebel to trade in or maybe keep.

Suggesting a 400 or 500 pound bike for a beginner is just nuts. In my opinion, if someone hasn’t mastered a 125cc they have no business buying anything bigger than that 300.

It’s ok, I’m not happy with the 500s performance but being 5’5 I can hardly ride a ninja 400, SV 650, trident... And my dream was unfortunately never sold in the US. With a 29.7 inch inseam the Honda CB400 SF woulda been great with good beginner power, exceptional fuel economy and a 4.7 gallon fuel tank!! But it was never sold to the US. Throw on a tuner to the 500 and it’ll be ok but it ain’t gonna handle the same I’m sure… oh well. Gotta try an SV650

Rebel 300 2018 thoughts (after 6 months of riding)
Perfect IF.... if you are starting out, driving on average under 60mph (i can keep it at 75mph without wind, again I'm 260lb), want high gas milage (60+ mpg!!!), and already plan on upgrading but using it as a learner.

The rebel 300 is amazing to start with and got me to go from feeling uneasy at under 20mph, to building confidence and now riding over 60mph (when law allows) everywhere I go with it. With that said after about 3 months I did feel the need to upgrade for more power (acceleration, view 0-60 specs if clarity is needed). Also have been told by mechanics that a single cylinder is not good at long highway speeds, they are meant roughly 60 or under and around city.

I wish to add the only other gripes I have in general, for my weight(or your weight plus luggage if lighter) I have to put rear spring on max but it works fine (you may not have this problem). The 300 is buzzy, your mirrors shake badly and hard to see behind you at higher speeds because of this. The seat is a must needed upgrade if you ride for more then 30minutes at highway speeds (both 300 and 500, same seats). Starting the bike (similar to other bikes, but I was new and dumb), to start: Turn key on, lift kickstand (or vise versa), turn engine switch on, then start engine button.....I say this because there was a few times I thought I had dead battery (nonsense, lights were on, again I was new), or my new (lightly used) rebel 300 was a dud....nope, just need to learn start up, and its similar to most motorcycles. and last, it does feel a bit cramped due to being a smaller and lower bike with a standard ride style. I don't mind it at all but did notice it after a friend mentioned it.

so....do yourself a favor. if you start with a rebel and want to keep it for more then a year....GET 500, especially for highway riding!, but.... if you find a good deal on a 300 and want to learn, but know your going to upgrade( and don't plan on passing people) then a 300 is enough to start!

Also don't forget there are other models and sizes out there, and just because I went this route doesn't mean its the best. Best thing to do is sit on it and give a test ride if possible.

The rebel 500 is the best entry level cruiser. Its highway capable, fun to cruise in the city, and you wont go to jail for pinning the throttle

I have been a HD guy for over 30 yrs. I'm not a bike snob though, I believe just ride whatever gets you on a bike. That being said a buddy of mine 19 yr old son who has been raised around HDs wanted to start riding. His goal is to have a Harley but he was a little intimidated by the weight. He drove a cruiser from pretty much every brand and ended up with a Rebel 1100. I rode it yesterday, I will say, that is one helluva a nice bike, especially for a beginner. It might be the best bike for a entry level rider that I ever rode quite honestly. Light, well balanced, loaded with technology geared toward safety. He can literally jump on it and go, has multiple traction and power settings, cruise, ABS, I can go on. If your a experienced rider but just want a bike to cruise around town, it can also give you all you want. Not near the torque or horsepower of a Vtwin, but if that's not a personal requirement, this is a damn good choice.

I recently started riding(a couple months ago) my dad who was a motor cop told me to get a 950 Yamaha bolt. I’ve been riding one since and I will say I am glad that I didn’t get another bike. As far as power goes, it has enough for highway speeds 80-90 just fine and is still a pleasure to ride around town on. Seriously the best beginner cruiser bike I could’ve asked for. For anyone who thinks it might be too much power, trust me, it’s not. It teaches you to respect the bike while still not living in fear of spinning it.
