Magicicada septendecim molting May 29, 2016 in Ohio, USA

Brood V of the 17-year periodical cicadas is emerging during the Spring of 2016 in eastern Ohio and parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia. After crawling out of the ground, they attach themselves to a tree and molt to the adult form. This specimen was collected in the early evening of May 28, brought indoors on a redbud tree branch, and photographed every 10 seconds. This is a time lapse movie.
