I think anyone upset about balancing and bans needs to try playing these formats to see how one sided things become and how nearly impossible it is to cover all the relevant strategies
ОтветитьJimothy, could you make a video about PP in competitive Pokemon? Is it a necessary mechanic? Is it ever relevant in the faster paced VGC format? Why did Pokemon go with this over the typical mana or MP that other games use? What does PP even stand for? I’d be very interested to hear what you have to say about PP.

They mixed up the ID numbers

Ответитьiirc with eternamax's stat overflowing you have to get the stat to exactly 655 (which is 240 EVs and plus nature i think)?, and it still technically takes damage, however it will only be 2 damage before applying any other modifiers like STAB or type effectiveness so it's still basically immune. every stat except HP can overflow but there's no real reason to overflow anything but defense.
ОтветитьIf this was Balanced Hackmons, it'd be hard to say who's the best Pokemon of any given generation unless your default answer is imposter Chansey. In the current gen, gen 9, a lot things are banned or "unavailable." I'm wishing for Shedinja to be unbanned because there's so many counter options now, Salt Cure being an example. For the FYI Shed was banned because you would have to have a counter for every Shedinja Sturdy set, because you can have boots, sash, covert cloak, lum berry and goggles (which is pointless bc of sleep/spore being banned), but tbh they do the same thing every game, its pretty predictable and its easier to set up indirect damage, ability ignore moves or brings back Mold Breaker meta.
Also, context, Shedinja was banned before gen 9, it might have been banned in gen 7 tbh.
I did not know that mega’s are actually in ScVi’s code, were they planning PL:ZA from the start?

As I understand it, the 0 DEF bug works almost exactly as Jimothy described but with 1 key difference. When the damage calculation is ran with 0 DEF it actually produces a value of 2 damage before modifiers every time (from Gen V onward anyway.) This is mostly because the formula includes a three tiered division, which (simplifying it down to the relevant parts only for this example) includes (Attack/Defence)/50 and when Defence is 0, the total sum tends toward infinity, which the game spits out as a 0, then a flat +2 is added onto the sum, which results in the consistent 2 damage (before modifiers)
People say it's "taking no damage" because it's a negligible amount but it's not actually 0, that's also why Jimothy wouldn't have been able to recreate it the way he originally expected.

ОтветитьI played a lot of gen 8 PH so let me add a few things. Eternamax can only be immune to damage on the physical or special side. Not both. That was a way to get around it as well. A common pick was shell smash calyrex shadow with moongeist beam and psystrike. And then normally a fairy move. You just sus out which eternamax was immune to which side (usually they’d bring one of each) and then click the physical or special move.
Additionally, Regieleki was huge in gen 8. And comatose was really common. Typical set was choice scarf with comatose, sleep talk, whirlwind, and roar. Set up hazards and then phase spam until they have 1 mon left. Magic bounce was a big counter and also helped vs toxic spamming eternamaxs.

Ответитьsmall correction with gens 1 and 2, in these generations you can bring a pokemon pre-statused which would be allowed in a true PH game and be a sleep counterplay, especially for gen 1 otherwise lacking any. issue with showdown is this is not implemented. its not clear who's #1 in this kind of meta or even theorized whatsoever

ОтветитьI briefly topped the gen 4 hackmons ladder back in the day, and I used to rep a level 1 wonder guard Sableye with Endeavor, Dragon Rage and Gastro Acid. Good fun.
ОтветитьI believe the reason Gen 6 is so popular for Pure Hackmons is also in part due to EVs. In every other generation, EVs can be hacked to be 252 in everything, but you only get your normal 510 in Gen 6 Pure Hackmons so an opportunity cost exists to “balance” things

ОтветитьIm sad that neutralizing gas wasnt mentioned cause pure hackmons also became a game of neutralizing gas, and the abilities that ignore it
ОтветитьGen 3 not being able to hack abilities makes me think about creating restricted hackmon formats.
Only abilities, only move, only stat redistributions(is not available?). Only modify one thing at a time until you get back to the existing hackmon format, then go again.
I like how in a mode where there are no rules and it's utter chaos everywhere is when Giratina is at its strongest
ОтветитьThe funny thing is that with arbitrary code execution in gen 2 hackmons is actually possible in the gen 1 and gen 2 games without modification or hacking. The game is so broken you can use ACE to write any move on any pokemon and also obtain any amount of any item to use in battle. You can also modify DVs and stat exp for perfect pokemon with any hidden power you want.
