The ultimate in recycling fast food packaging, which is the biggest source of freeborn trash when it's available. Paper napkins that's about all if even that.

Okay so, how is this easier than bringing your own lunch with you in the morning? And if you want it hot, heating it up in the microwave?

For anyone wondering the reason behind people not carrying their own lunches - the Mumbai Suburban train system is so crushed under the load of the passengers, it is virtually impossible to carry the lunch boxes with yourself on a train. Most Indian lunches have chapatis and rice with some curry, so you need different containers for them - so you can't carry those thin tiffin boxes ...

Im more surprised about the amount of food being delivered. I think i order food only once a year, if not less.

I really don't get it. So you make the lunch yourself at home and instead of just taking it with you in a tupperware, you have this hyper complex system for someone else to do that for you, even though you need to go the same way anyway? Doesn't make sense to me

This issue with western takeout is economies of scale. The driver basically only delivers your food. Imagine if they delivered 30 orders in one trip, just like what happens in Mumbai.

So let me get this right. You cook your lunch every morning and then you hand it off to someone before you go to work. then at lunchtime the lunch that you cooked and had in your hand this morning will be delivered. Why the fuck don’t you just take your own lunch that you cooked this morning to work with you? Why would I pay someone to pick it up and drop it off?

For people were wondering, if one could bring their own lunch with them:
In earlier times usually wives made the lunch and the system allow them to wake up at a convenient hour.
BUT TODAY WHEN WOMEN WORK THE SAME WAY AND TIME AS MEN THIS BECOMES EVEN CRUCIAL AS 95% OF MUMBAI HOUSEHOLD WHERE BOTH MEN AND WOMEN IN THE FAMILY WORK THEY EMPLOY MAID/HOUSE HELP. AND THE HOUSE HELP DON'T SHOW UP EARLY MORNING IT'S USUALLY AROUND 10 O'CLOCK.

So yes it's a simple and effective system.

I don’t get It, tbh. if my lunch leaves my house exactly 30 minutes after I left, why wouldn’t me and my family prepare the food just a bit earlier and why wouldn’t I take my own lunch to work myself? This is a serious question, I really don’t get it.

A key ingredient to making it all work is the way the city and the local train work together.

Ответить
@HexafoldTechnologies
@HexafoldTechnologies - 19.08.2024 12:32

but why?

Simple answer for convenience.

Imaging leaving for work at 6-7AM with the tiffin and having same food at 1PM. On top of that, cook(Mostly wife) will have to get up at 5 AM to prepare the food. So with this service, you can make food at your time 10-10:30 AM without disturbing your sleep and husband will get food at office around lunch time and it will be much more fresh compare to 5AM cooked food.

Also many family prefer this as morning is school time for kids and getting them ready for school. They would be busy in kids and once the kids are off to school they would food for family.
