One of Bogards best! A very
sad story well made with strong performances, a beautiful leading lady and stunning scenery!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of five.
One of Bogarde's best early tragic romances, beautifully shot, excellent performances. Thank you for sharing this gem.
ОтветитьTerrific, thank you.
ОтветитьHeart touching movie
I was read this novel very good novel.
But in this movie location about Maram to Imphal road, hill area is not true I'm from imphal.
But thanks our Imphal is involved in second ww and introduce all over the world by this novel
Loved this movie. Sad but beautiful.
ОтветитьSo colourful and romantic. Lovely film. Is his wife dying or something and she can't tell him - a brain tumour? Only she keeps mentioning "fool's paradise" as though she knows their happiness is short-lived.
ОтветитьLove this film, had it on video once. Thank you.
ОтветитьA wonderful movie.
ОтветитьAnother awesome movie, made the way movies were meant to be made.
Ответитьi,am lost for words, that film is beutiful, why does the loss of some you love hurts so much, you are never ready for it, so many tears and so much sadness .
Ответитьi cried writing that iwas alone all my life 70years, never felt the love of or touch of awoman, but alas the film was beutiful, but Dirk Bogarde rather took the shine off knowing he was gay.
ОтветитьThere is no desert in Burma
ОтветитьThank You 😊
ОтветитьWhen one has been there , You will know what it is like and what one suffered........
ОтветитьMy mum's favourite film.
ОтветитьGreat acting by Bogarde as he was a practicing homosexual then
ОтветитьAnother British film good cast romance
ОтветитьJohn Fraser is uncannily like a young Sean Connery (which doesn't stop him from taking a run at Connery in his autobiography years later, LOL).
ОтветитьAww, a tearjerker lol. Fine performances by the two main characters backed up by supporting cast and cinematography. Thanks for the upload.
ОтветитьRather a strange title
Maybe a hidden meaning!
Awesome
ОтветитьGreat movie but sad ending.
ОтветитьBeautiful movie! So sad it’s been largely forgotten 👏👏👏😢😢😢👍👍👍
ОтветитьRalph Thomas made some great films. This one included. Touching and beautiful. Great performances by the cast and the Taj Mahal scenes were evocative and stunning.
ОтветитьMy mother has just gave me the large poster for this film she got when she was 15yrs old and now nearly 81! I must give it a watch.
Interesting scenes of officer Japanese language courses.
My father and grandfather taught similar courses in Chinese to servicemen. My father complained that the RAF flyers behaved like schoolboys with their various pranks.
The language teaching comments over number of charcsters needed etc is very accurate.
Looking forward to this film.
Dirk Bogarde really and truly massacred the pronunciation of the Japanese language!
When he ( tried ) to speak Japanese, he had a very strong " macaroni " accent ( putting a heavy stress on the 2nd or 3rd syllable of a word.) Japanese has no such stresses.
He also had problems with his end-vowels. He pronounced them soft and rounded. Instead of short with a clipped sound. I'm surprised his Japanese language coaches did not dare correct him.
But that's all okay, I guess. Since Dirk belonged to the victorious side of WWII.
I like this film how the production take all from film since 1979
ОтветитьIs the film only in English?
ОтветитьWell made chick flick. BUT! DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS SECTION BEFORE YOU WATCH
THE MOVIE, wrecks the end.
bad bad ending//forcing viewers to wallow in it
ОтветитьAnother British film with a similar vein The Purple Plain , starring Gregory Peck.
Ответитьmy father-in-law, was a truck driver/ambulance driver on the Burma Road during World War II. He was an American soldier in the army. His military issue 45 was always at his side during his time in Burma. At times he returned sniper fire without 45 as he drove his ambulance or truck on that road, he also shot at Japanese airplanes with that 45.
when I returned home to Pittsburgh VA, after the war, he was married, and they had two girls, I married one of them. My mother-in-law did not like guns, so I never got to see his 45.
when my father-in-law died, my mother-in-law took that gun to the local police station. As she was pulling into the parking lot of the police station, she saw an officer walking into the building. She pulled up to him, and handed him the pistol. She said this belong to my husband, he died two weeks ago, and I don’t want it in the house anymore, and she drove away. she did not tell that officer anything about the gun, or it history, or where it had been during World War II or the action that gun saw..
Some ass would upload this in 360p and ruin the quality...
ОтветитьEast is east and west is west
And never the twain should meet!
An RAF pilot (Dirk Bogarde) sent to India falls tragically in love with the girl (Yôko Tani) who teaches him Japanese.
Initial release: 1958
This is a love story.
This goes out to my Mom❤
Thanks for showing me such wonderful movies, this is my childhood.
An excellent movie, if not rather sad. The other things I like are the scenes shot in Delhi, the Red Fort, and shots of Jaipur and Jodhpur. They bring back some happy memories for me.
ОтветитьI could never have served anywhere near India. I am quite sure I would have been way to distracted by all the beauty with special attention to India's women. Great Shots of India...
ОтветитьThank you so much for posting this Scottie. I knew it was sad but have always wanted to see the film and thanks to you, I have! Always a fan of Dirk Bogarde and I think he made a good job in this film.
