Is ELITE DANGEROUS Worth Playing In 2024?

I just downloaded yesterday. Seen a dudes video of him cruising in a mamba with his uncle who passed away. It was amazing looking. Like the gentleman in this video here I became frustrated in the first few hours. But I watched videos that broke everything down in digestible pieces. Since I don’t have a pc , my space sim experience is limited ! But to this day , elite dangerous is my favorite space game of all time ! I just wish they didn’t abandon it on console !

WTF is "too late to try"? Why would ever be too late for any game? Like what exactly do you have to lose by trying? If you're bothered about few bucks, I believe there is a demo. And of course ED is worth playing in 2024, as there is nothing like it same as in 2014, what a dumb question.

Games like Elite punish anyone that either can't play often or comes in late.
Take the Thurgoid war that went on for a while now. In an upcoming update, that will be ended. So anyone who comes in after that, won't get to experience that content

hi sorry to disapoint you but console players are still playing live, the game still have online alive, yes no more updates but you can still play with other players so the only console players dont gonna get is odyssey and update to the history. I have it on xbox, ps4 and pc (pc i have odyssey ) and i love it.

I only have the console legacy version and I fired it back up again last night. I quickly got bored. The game has moved on and left console behind unfortunately. If FD had updated some of the cosmetic stuff like the menus and HUD then it would have been a reasonable trade off.

why should i play this and not No Mans Sky

Which expansion do I need to be able to land and walk on planets? And is the game going to be playable after the couple to few years mentioned in this video?

As of less than 2 days ago, They just anounced an overhaul of one system, a whole new system, and 4 more ships, one being confirmed the Python Mk2.

For newer players definitely worth checking out. For returning players..not really.

I picked it up a few years ago but fell off pretty quick. Same with Eve online, but after some quick research found Elite is more I speed I think.
After getting a decent HoTaS I figured I’d start looking into it again

Was an ok game, X4 foundations and space engineers offer way more than elite has to bring to the table and never looked back since leaving. Nice to see elite videos though even if the game is just getting ready for permanent maintenance mode

loved the game but the direction odyssey went shows how shitty is the cobra engine ... how shitty is the code ... and how bad Braben's vision is ... i'm done betting on them ... they sux

I've played it since 2016 and It's really sad to see that ED has lost all interest in a long term development journey. After the first Thargoid iteration, everything felt soulless and useless.

I paused the video when you spoke about every ship being available to buy in game, but you never mentioned the grind and length of time it takes to get them, then unlocking things like guardian weapons etc. it's a very very very long process getting to most people's dream ship and the grind is boring and repetitive.

Since when these AI videos became norm, should be bannable.

If Mass Effect had the flying elements from Elite Dangerous. I would probably become Cypher from the Matrix and live within the game far away from real life 😅

The graphics look really bad... and the planets seem dead and boring :( so you can't really call this a space sim.

There is no game like Elite Dangerous. Not even close. Elite is by far the best Sci-Fi space sim game today.

Honestly, this was easily one of the best games I have played. I sunk many hours into this game and unlocked every ship, fully loaded and fully engineered. If the thought of flying around a ship doing combat, or cargo hauling, or mining interests you- this is the game for you. And if you proceed, don't still till you get the federal corvette.

ED isn't perfect, but it got me through Covid, even when I was sick with Covid, so it will always have a special place with me, though I have moved on to other games..

Just starting to replay it, it totaly worth playing it, still the best multiplayer spacegame (with EVE) actually !

I have never put in much time, yet was thinking about starting fresh and doing some exploring, yet after noting Frontiers less than enthusiastic attitude, i don't think its worth my time or effort, what if im totally immersed and enjoying my new adventures only to hear frontier are halting all development over priority to other projects...wouldn't put it past them. with dubious market expectations for FY24. Shame
PS: Saying all that EDO is light years better than the kiddies Starfield which is an insult, and isn't really a space game, No hands on space flight, just animations, and No vehicles.

I spent five years playing this game exclusively in VR. Its an amazing experience! My interest only waned after Odyssey released without VR support.
