Being 40yrs young, my 1st highlight was done at home by Gma( in whom she dyed her hair every 2 wks on the dot. No joke or over exaggerating- in the Era when Sally's Beauty Supply, you could only shop there is you were an actical stylist & had to show them your 'ID stylist'(w/e that was)) so she would borrow her friends card in whom was a stylist & would stock up for a few months at a time. Growing up I never saw a box type dye in my home/ or her unfortunately ever get to a salon to get herself pampered- (rest her soul she deserved to have her feet kissed as soon as my Gpa walked in the door) until I asked for highlights. I'm shocked that those highlighting hair caps are still being used & sold. I remeber the pain of trying to get all my 'highlighted hair out of the cap without literally pulling out all the spots. Obviously now I think back to why didn't she just use scissors very very precisely. As I said tho, she had never used box anything so she was just following directions. Lol. 1st & last time using that cap, I was about 10. 30yrs of memories of almost descalping myself. 😅😂💜 I've never promoted those unless you have a pixie cut or Bob type cut, it's so hard to get off without scissors. Eek!

I wish we had those head mannequins in my vocational high school 😭. Our teachers had us look for several "clients" for each service which meant we kidnapped *ahem invited *ahem unsuspecting students on break or on other shop classes like a syndicate of headless chickens every time we had to do the required practice. We ended up negotiating with each other in class so we can perform on each other. Our poor hair were all so short from practicing haircuts ☠️☠️😂😂.

I ran out of money in school so I couldn’t afford heads(or food.) I pretended to cut my 90 head at least 20 times and got credit for every single “cut.”

Why are you not practicing on real people. The beauty school near my house does all the services for super cheap because they are just students. I usually get my hair cut there. Its super long and if they mess up, there is plenty left to fix it. The teacher comes by to check you before you leave...i assume for a grade.

I just graduated back in January and I’m starting at a booth rent salon next week! Life is good!

Today in class I was trying to do a 0 degree cut and accidentally cut my hand open because I wasn't holding my shears right.

Girl idk what that highlighting technique is but I’ve been in the industry well over 5 years and never seen anything like that.😂 Creativity and being an artist is so important but I really want to know how that turned out as it isn’t even saturation or a blended at all. Again no hate your in school just am very curious about it lol
