Why Indie Animation Is Winning Where Studios Are Failing

In my opinion, the Oscars in particular are just corrupt piles of dog shit certainly nowadays.
I mean any award organisation that supports or rewards E I can’t be taken seriously.

With that in mind if an independent elevation production doesn’t win one of those awards it’s really not that big of a deal, it be nice and it would help but it’s not the be all and end all IMO.

there was a movie one of my elective teachers introduced me to called Patema Inverted. It had a pretty small budget for the quality of the movie. I think its a great movie about two different perspectives and my dad also really enjoyed. Also I have found myself going down the indie animation rabbithole every three years or so lol.

Indies are not winning the big studios are simply boring audiences to death.
Pixar was my favourite studio until the tedium of Un-Incredibles 2 (snore)

On the one hand, yay for Indie creativity. On the other hand, if you raise $2m you need a proper work flow and communications strategy.

The case with indie projects is that they either gain success or lose nothing because they didn't have anything to begin with

Maybe one of many reason why indie won because some of them are ex studio artist who can not get a job anywhere but life expense still rolling, so they go indie, plus the new comer animator and artist also cant get a job too, i heard the gap ratio of total animator and studio is huge, so maybe this is the reason why, just my humble opinion

I think the big thing you mentioned at the end is attention, big studios losing attention is going to cost them a ton of money and could potentially weaken them to the point they're willing to concede to some of these visions.

The same that happened with indie games, is happening with animation. Not to say it will overtake and replace mainstream animation. Just provide an alternative to animation fans that crave something fresh, new, outlandish and creative. While providing a platform that, for creatives, much like AAA gaming, that mainstream animation overlooked or kicked to the curb. Indie lets game devs and indie animation studios make their mark. Indie gaming and animation may not be the future, but rather, a frames alternative.

The innovators of gaming and animation became content fat cats the choose greed at the price of passion. Success, over creativity. Now, it’s the indie gaming devs and animators that pioneer new innovation.

To me personally it’s the heart they care about the shows they make!

As an ƎNA fan, I love how that's in there. Though I would've also loved it if clips from the Web series made it in too, and not just the DreamBBQ game teasers. Like, the videos with the Yellow and blue ƎNA, with which it started. But I'm still happy to see it, regardless. It is fantastic animation!

Not gonna lie, I come to your channel often to see what new stuff is out there cuz I'm not hearing about any of this anywhere else.

Are there websites or (I'm dating myself) magazines, or some other media where i can learn about all this indie animation and lesser known studios?

You hit the nail on the head. The main studios are trying to make films that apply to the widest possible range of ticket buyers and end up with homogenized pap, the media equivalent of baby food. Sure, anyone can eat it, but who the fuck wants to?

My hope for AI is not that it skips the entire creative process, but instead that it shortens the parts that have nothing to do with creativity like transferring colors from one frame to the next etc.
Be a help that allows small studios to work faster and cheaper without loosing what makes these indi production great.
Disney: When it comes to big production, yea they are a bit stale.But if you check out Disney animated series like Owlhouse, ducktales etc its an entirely different situation.

The other deep, underlying issue is that the crowdfunding campaigns that don't succeed mean that artists with all the passion in the world just...don't have the energy to work for a living wage and make art on their own time. Hell, even the ones that DO succeed often still need steady employment during their projects. It takes a miracle to not only create something successful, but to do it with whatever spare time and energy you can scrap together. Take Undertale, it was made by one guy in his basement while he worked a retail job. The universe just happened to fall into place for it to become the unprecedented success it is now.

Indie animation is honestly so refreshing compared to other things🙏

What happens with the big studios is. step 1, created out of love, they made the studio so they can better organize their ideas. Step 2 , the original founder steps down and money hungry take power. Step 3, downfall

fun fact: When Im an Adult I want to write shows But im not counting on The bigger Production studios Like dreamworks, Im actually counting on going to Glitch productions Or Any other indie Studios

It’s like for murder drones, they took 3 years to make one season, and the fans demand another one, but I don’t think that will happen since they took so long to make one season. I hope I said that correctly

A lot of this indie stuff looks like it would have done well on adult swim. I’ve been trying to find where I can rewatch 12 oz Mouse.

Independent animation tries new things, new drawing styles, new characters, different stories. Disney is stuck with a certain pattern and this makes it get boring over time. Nothing stays fun in the same way forever. It seems that Disney is afraid to try something new because of some people on the internet who are not the majority but just loud people.

May I recommend Animator vs Animation? I hardly ever see it getting mentioned whenever people talk about Indie Animation as a whole and I think it really deserves some more recognition.

meh, i do prefer the Indie animations that do not shoehorn stupid swearing in them. But plenty of them that don't to watch. That is why I do not watch Helluva boss and Hazbin but I do like the character designs
