From "Users' experiences of tyre wear on electric vehicles A survey and interview study" June 2022 Report number: 1126AAffiliation: Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute:
"most professional users (Taxi, Bus, Rental) experience similar tyre wear as for ICEVs."

"Tires on a modern electric car will wear down much slower than in a car with a traditional internal combustion engine. This is due to good traction control. The driver assist systems reduce slipping by utilizing the electric motor's rapid power adjustment. This system is much quicker than in ICE vehicles, where it is based on braking and limiting engine RPM,"
Nokian Tyres' Development Manager Mikko Liukkula.

Social media channels (and owners) need to look carefully at Brazil. X caved in under pressure from the Brazillian government, and other countries need to learn from this. Misinformation can be stopped, particularly if channels are being paid for by proxys of foreign regimes.

Where do long-haul, 80,000 pound, 18-wheeled Class-8 trucks fit into the pollution problem? I'm ready for a battery electric or a fuel-cell electrical solution for trucking of all methods & sizes ASAP. Private passenger gasoline & diesel vehicles? ...They'll appreciated as antiques far sooner than Automobile manufacturers admit to, and State/Federal tax credits for purchase of new EV cars will soon be obsolete in 2028 (but still funded?), as battery cell technology makes it a cheaper no-brainer for an increasing majority of new car buyers. Who thinks EVs will still take 18 minutes to charge and only go 250 miles per charge in 2028? I'm worried about major & minor oil companies declaring insolvency and rapidly abandoning a toxic mess of leaking well-heads and obsolete transporting pipes, and having every middle class wage earner taxed extra to pay for clean-up of such million+ of abandoned well-heads in California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, and Alaska (yes, there are actual more states mining/producing petroleum & natgas). It is an F-ing mess, but we'll work our way though it and survive if our environment does not change too rapidly for domestic & wild species to adapt.

The average gas car in the US emits 4.6 metric tons of tailpipe emissions per year. The average new car tire weighs 25 lbs. the average scrap tire weighs 20 lbs, so 20 lbs of rubber particulate emissions per set of 4 tires. So EV’s are going through 506 sets of tires per year to equal that 4.6 metric tons? How do these stupid EV drivers even find time to get a new set of tires more than once a day? And why would they even drive an EV when they have to spend $500,000 a year in tire replacements? EV drivers must be bad at math.

I hate the tire argument people try to pull. Like ice cars don’t use tires. Or the majority of ice vehicles are now suvs weighing more or as much an EV, yet somehow those tires don’t wear out?

I feel most people know that the Evies are better. Personal experience only here. My coworkers had no issues riding in my new ice cars. But they will not ride in the EV to see how it is. Like a kid who won’t try a vegetable.

My BiL is one of these unthinkng fools. He claimed that my "heavy" EV was more polluting but also more damaging to the roads (another myth here in the UK) because it is heavier than ICE equivalents.

I then googled the weight of his bloated Audi Q5 and guess what? Yup, it weighs more than my EV. Imagine how angry he got about this inconvenient truth...

Ответить
@michaelgoode9555
@michaelgoode9555 - 10.10.2024 20:41

It is now irrefutably proven that EV's do not wear tyres and therefore pollute more from the tyres than ICE cars. My EV certainly leaves far less brake pad dust behind than any ICE car.

Ответить
@robinhood4640
@robinhood4640 - 10.10.2024 20:58

Surely there is a way of manipulating the data to show that ICE cars only have 'x' % of their total pollution coming from the tyres, and for EVs it's colossal the % of their total pollution that comes from the tyres.
So obviously, if you have less brain cells than teeth. EVs pollute way more.

Weird study. Are they talking about the pollution that results from smoking the tires doing jack rabbit starts? Considering the price of tires this is not common. If I put the pedal to the metal on a dual motor model Y it accelerates like crazy, but does not smoke the tires.

This is my reply to those arguing that electric car is polluting with the dust from the tires.

Myths to scare versus reality. Here is my response to a misleading info in regard to 30% heavier then ICE: Here is the comparable weight of vehicles on each manufacturer’s site. The first two are the most sold electric vehicles in the last 5 years and that can be found on Quebec’s Canada roads. The next three, ICE vehicle (comparable to the first two).
This is another myth to scare people.
1) Chevrolet Bolt / is 1 646 kg
2) Tesla Model 3 Standard / 1645 kg
3) Toyota Camry / 1585 to 1670 kg
4) Honda Accord / 1493 kg
5) Hyundai Elantra Berline L / Gross weight 1760 kg

Here’s the reality: The Ford F-150 pickup truck is still the most sold new vehicle in Quebec Canada 2023-2024
With a weight without load according to the model 2 037 kg to the most popular 2 241 kg.
The second position is the Toyota RAV4 with a weight of 2091 kg to 2134 kg best-selling.
And the third selling position, GMC Sierra 2500HD 2023 with an average weight 2838 kg

So the real polution of rubber’s is from those pickup truck which are the biggest seller, So please stop with your lies!

With regenerative braking, any slight difference in tire wear is more than made up for, in reduced brake dust. Total particulate matter from an EV is much less per mile, if you add in brake wear, especially, in city driving. Out of the freeway, cruising smooth and easy, there is little to no difference, since brakes aren't often used, (If you're a patient driver)

EVs make driving more carefully/sensibly much easier. You're not having to work nearly as hard to keep your vehicle at the right speed and waiting eons for the gear to shift if you have an automatic. Not to mention much less noise and vibration which is directly responsible for higher levels of anxiety and stress which leads to more aggressive driving.

For your wellbeing and the environment you should have at least one EV daily driver if your social and economic situation can accommodate it. And it's worth checking the secondhand market once a week.

the main thing all these enviromental idiots should be focused on should be to stop all wars, and funding of wars across the world, stop providing weapons, and bombs to other countries. strive for peace.
we're over here driving Electric in minus 30-40C. meanwhile the government is encouraging other countries to continue bombing each other. but yea let's save the planet. SMH

I'm a big fan of moving towards EVs. But I also see the big offenders get lost in the national discourse. Far more emissions is created by unregulated small engines like lawnmowers, leaf blowers, and generators. You said you like evidence, look at the Edmond article car vs truck vs leaf blower... bottom line: the four-stroke Ryobi leaf blower kicked out 6.8 times more NOx, 13.5 times more CO and more than 36 times more NMHC than the Raptor. That's worst case truck against best case leaf blower! I have a leafblower from 90's that I use an extension cord with... so this problem was solved.... it's a matter of people actually caring about their environment. We should also smog check vehicles. It does not take long before you'll be following a car or truck where you can actually see the smoke coming out of the emissions and where you're hitting your car's re circulation button just to breath. These big offenders should be the start of every discussion on clean air. They offend the environment far more than ICE vehicles in good working condition. EV is a great movement, but lets not get let our eyes off the bigger problem.

Hi, first, I don't like to call EVs zero-emission cars. It misleads people. In this case, I'll call them less-pollutant cars, which is actually a fact.

Second: Apples to apples, Ford Lightning: 6500 lbs., Ford F-150 ICE, the heaviest one to be as fair as possible, 5014 lbs. I just binged it, but don't forget that Americans love pickups, and some buy pickups to commute just like everyone else. Then, anyone buys, hmm... an ICE Hyundai Kona also to commute. I wonder who pollutes the most? I almost forgot, the Lightning weighs 29.63% more.

Third, let's be fair: Bolt vs. Corolla 5-doors: the electric vehicle weighs between 15% and 23% more than its counterpart. In the best scenario, it makes 479 lbs. extra, which is quite a lot to me. I could continue for a lot longer, but I must go to bed.

However, if one drives more than 20,000 miles a year, one should consider an EV, but not an elephant that beats a Lamborghini and could fall on your adolescent's hands. Remember, we must rethink the way we do things.
Ah! Don't forget to check the electricity source where you live. If it comes from coal, you won't be as helpful. Bye.
