In this video, we troubleshoot a common issue on the Troy Bilt TB30R (Model 13A726JD066) rear engine riding mower — it won’t start, won’t crank, and doesn’t make any noise when turning the key
Is your Troy Bilt TB 30R or similar 30" rear engine riding mower completely dead when you turn the key?
No click, no crank, no sound, no start? In this video, we go through a full step-by-step diagnosis to figure out why this mower won’t start — and show how to fix it.
If you’re experiencing a dead mower with no response, this guide will walk you through the entire diagnostic process to find the problem and get it fixed.
We begin by reviewing all the required starting conditions: ensuring the parking brake is fully engaged, the blade PTO lever is disengaged, and the side discharge chute or mulch cover is properly installed — which is a safety interlock on these mowers.
When the mower still won't start after those are confirmed we move into a full electrical system test
We go over:
How to test and verify your battery voltage
Fuse location and how to test it
Safety switch locations (seat switch, brake switch, PTO switch, chute switch) and how to test them
Voltage testing at the starter solenoid
Hot to test the starter and starter solenoid & diagnose them
Checking for corroded, loose, or chewed wires
Understanding the seat interlock “anti-tamper” system on 4-prong seat switches and how to fix the issue if your mower dies when you release the brake because of this failure
We also go over how to properly test the ignition switch — and ultimately discover the problem
This testing process applies not only to the TB30R, but also to many MTD-built machines, including Craftsman Cub Cadet, Bolens, Murray, Yard Machines, Yard-Man, and other private label riding mowers using the same electrical system.
If your mower has no power, no click, or dies when you release the brake, this video is packed with useful tips to help you pinpoint the issue.
