In olds edition Strahd Is said to be the First Vampire too but i don't think Is the First Vampire in general: Van Richten in Is Guide to Vampire mention Vampire oldest than Strahd to exist. And in fact Strahd Is not even the oldest Vampire in the Domains, Jander Sunstar have 700 years of unlife. So Strahd in Old edition Is the First Vampire arrived in the Lands of Mist not the First in the multiverse.

There should really be 3 Weaves. The main Weave generated/maintained by Mystra, the Weave made out of the gaps in Mystra's weave (the Shadow Weave, maintained/governed by Shar), and the Bright/Glint Weave made up of the radiation (i.e. light) given off by the weave itself (this one would be governed by Seluné).

At least, I think this would be cool. Though it does require Shar to make peace with Seluné...

sooo is the black mists around moonrise tower shadowmist or is it something else, its connected to Shar which is obvious and those exposed to it die and then become reanimated as shadow corrupted spirits and its connected to the shadowfell

As BG3 leads me to binge watch DnD lore videos, I can’t but feel that the DnD multiverse seems just a “tad” top heavy. While every other plane of existence is nigh infinite in size, the so-called prime material planes are just these cosmic marbles floating through the astral. Each only about double the size of a solar system, if that. The galactic equivalent of a pin prick.😂

Like… why does the setting even need such huge afterlives and the like, when they’re are pulling souls from such small pools?

Like sure, there’s supposed to be many of said cosmic marbles, but if there were enough of them to make multiple infinite planes worth the hassle, then it’s unlikely a resident of any of the other planes would even be able to “name” some random world in the prime material. Much less care about a few beings/souls there.😅

In my campaign, the Shadowfell, Feywild, and Material planes sometimes “shuffle,” so the Shadowfell starts growing life, while the material plane begins to rot and decay. Portals fluctuate between them as they transfer over, teleporting cities, people, monsters, etc. to the other planes. The process takes a while, and only happens once every few thousand years, and only if there’s enough death in the material plane or Feywild, and life/growth in the Shadowfell to trigger the planes’ overlapping.

The campaign I’m running began just before this occurrence. In the next few in game days, the material plane will suffer an apocalyptic event, while (basically the blood of a nature god causing mass plant growth) the Shadowfell will be flooded with life.

The campaign will then involve the consequences and aftermath of the Shadowfell and material plane rearranging.

(The events will be caused by planar-infused dragons, or “Planekites” attacking the material plane, while an Elder Evil currently trapped inside one of my players gets released while inside a domain of dread that imprisons a powerful and evil nature spirit. The Elder Evil (a being that was trapped because he killed and ate several gods) will kill the spirit, and break the domain open, thereby spilling the blood of the spirit across the Shadowfell.)

In my campaign setting I used the shadowfell and had the raven queen be able to use her magic to control the shadar kai, as well as create bodies for them. After my shadar kai player died he was allowed to come back, but he is basically a golem, and can be used as a living portal for her to interact with the world even with the limits on divinity interfering with rhe material plane

Currently building a Shadar-Kai shadow monk who's going to dual wield a flail and a katana, who's purpose is to venture the material plane collecting negative emotions and memories of others for the Rsven Queen's horde.

Maximum "its not a phase, mom!" energy. Full commitment to 2004 Hawthorne Heights, pre-black parade MCR (we're talking Helena levels of emo here), Sunny Day Real Estate guyliner and black nail polish aesthetic.

Good times are going to be had. Accompanied by passive aggressive sarcasm and self indulgent nihilism.

One thing that confuses me about the Shadowfell (not to even mention more bizarre places, like humanoid settlements in Baator) is, how the hell they get anything done or built? Since most of the Folks there don't really have any ambition, desires, goals, objectives, etc. how does any sense of gainful operation work? There's no real army of slaves, like say you would find in the City of Brass, so are we to discover that these emulations of places/things in the material plane, are created by straight magic? If so, magic used by whom?
Not trying to be a spoilsport here but D&D under the fickle thumb of WotC, frequently suffers from a lack of addressing shortfalls like this. far too often they will make determinations, throw it out into the world for consumption and when closely scrutinized or questioned, their response is usually; "Eerr, it's magic, don't worry about it".
At least when TSR (god bless them) were handling things, they'd try to give rationale for decisions made.

I would like to add some depth into your narratives on some things. I see that you get your information mostly from rule and source books for realms, creatures and such. Might I also suggest several novel reading books, made for entertainment based in the realms? The ones I will refer to are back from about the second edition of the setting. Books like "The Shadow Stone" by Richard Baker which details a malevolent stone that is the source of the Shadowfell, well before Shar tried creating the Shadow Weave. Or "Crypt of The Shadowking" and "Curse of The Shadowmage" by Mark Anthony, from The Harpers series of novels. Just suggesting that they (at least the first one) may be able to give you a little more insight and/or legend for the Shadowfell.

I hate BG3's depiction of the Shadowfell.
The Shadow-Cursed Lands are a lot more like what I would imagine, but if it is Shar's domain it would make sense that there is practically nothing in it.

I wanna add something.. concerning the shifting nature of the shadowfell. I rhink it's similar to how shadows form in the path of light.
I would have locations shift the way shadows react to the sun.
So tye shadow city would move on a clockwise position relative to it's material plane counterpart. It also moves forward and backward to mimic the changing length of a shadow. So if travelling to a shadowplane city, at some point, it would be better to stop moving and let the city come to you, because depending on the time of day, the city may go from being a mile away, to 100 miles away. Or just as you are about to reach it, the shadow shifts and the city is suddenly 10 miles behind you
